1978 280Z As far as I can tell, the vaccuum cannister (not charcoal cannister) is only needed for the heater controls. Is it possible to completely eliminate it? The charcoal cannister has a separate vacuum line from the intake manifold. Ones less thing to plug up the engine bay... thx.

Well i got my 280z in dec of last year and I have finally got it to the point to where i could trust it as my daily driver. Before then it was sitting over a year. My daily commute is about 120miles total at least M-Th. So far the car is doing ok, er....i think. 2 weeks ago i changed the oil since i planned on driving more now. (i changed it when i first got it in dec also) I started driving it(been doing ok for a week now) four days ago i looked at the oil and it was transperent and barely noticeable on the dip stick. Now today it is very black. I am probably going to do another oil change. What could cause the rapid change in oil color? In my 240z (when i had it) the …

Is it possible to tune the ECU on a '78 280Z for more power or better fuel economy? What, if anything can you do to the ECU? Should it be swapped for something else? I'm looking for fuel economy (currently at about 17 ,mpg- would like to see 20.)

Does anybody know of a good dyno shop in the central Florida area. There used to be one in Tarpon Springs called Tune Tech but they're no longer in business. So many of the dyno shops in the Tampa Bay area are for "bench testing". Would really like a shop that knows Z's. The engine is ultra modfied with around 1300 miles on it. You think it needs more break in time before dyno testing? ZRush

I have a E-31 Head that I would like to put on an F-54 block. With Manley SS valves, can I get this head to flow as well as a P-90 head? Usually mods, cam, headers, and Mallory. Nothing too radical or too fast. Rick

I have a 1971 240z and I drive up to the mountains frequently but when I go up to the 5000-foot level and higher the engine seems to lack power do to the thinning of the air. For instance, I have to push on the gas more to keep the RPM, it basically feels like a power loss. I have the old stock air intake and was wondering if I had to change it to help the engine breath a bit better. I recently changed the filter but to no avail. I just started restoring this Z and I am a rookie when it comes to engine work. Any help would be much appreciated.

Got what seems to be a dead cyl. in my 83. I checked my Haynes manual and the firing order seems off. I have replaced plug wires, distributor cap, button, plugs. Still seems dead. Thoughts? Thanks. Tim.

hey guys, i will be joining the ranks of a Z owner here shortly (new thread in general forum). but i do have a couple questions. baiscally, is the L6 block in the 240 the same block as the 280? in other words, if i have an original 240 block, can that be bored and factory sized 280 pistons installed? also, what cam/valve options are there for good performance? the plan with the new car is to just pull the motor from the beginning, have the block bored and honed, replace the cam, chain and oil pump and anything else that needs actual attention. anything else you guys suggest might need attention? i just want to get this running as strong as i can on a minimum bu…
