Hey all Z-lovers! i have a '76 260z 2+2, ive been doing it up a bit.... (my first car) I just bought another spare car for parts also, im going to change the motors, question is i have a set of flat top SU carbys (huge things) and a set of round tops. Which set is better & why, what are the better charicteristics of both sorts??? Also what pretty simple cheap things can i do to boost a few horses? Any ideas what a turbo kit would be worth. I am in country South Australia. Thanks, mellow

Hi guys Well I decided to have a look at the original engine from my 1970 240z a couple of weeks ago and I 've got it partly stripped. Problems is engine dropped a valve before I bought it which has damaged the E31 head and smashed one piston. My first thought was to get the knackered bore sleeved and to buy one new piston ( which are apparently still available) and a full ring set. And get the block tanked to get all the bits of broken piston out. However the engine has done at least 120,000 miles ( could be 220,000 miles!!!!), and only replacing one piston seems a bit of a false economy if the rest of the engine is starting to wear. And I was concerned that fitting o…

I recently pulled the manifolds on my L-24 and I found a large deposit of crud on the intake valves from the stem out to almost the seat of the valve. The stuff was thick like tar but gritty , but not abraceive when rubbed between the fingers . I removed it with a screwdriver with vary little effort. My Question is where did it come from ? I am running a air cleaner on the SUs , and the engine burns no oil and is not running rich but right on. It seems weard to me that it dident come loose and be digested by the engine . I guss I just need to drive a little harder! Anyone else have the same thing ? I have seen simular build up on exhoust valves but hard carbon but never …

backfire while shifting? Very quiet poof, not all the time either.I was thinking mebbe it was lack of backpressure form the wide open exhaust? Ive heard that FI engines need backpressure or they run rich? Any ideas?

My 260Z is having issues starting when left for a day or two, once i do get it going it will only be able to start itself for around 12-24 hours after being shut down. The starter seems to be going quite strong all the time, there is just no sign of the engine turning over. At first I thought the battery was on its way out but my multimeter showed it holding a good 12V even when the car was not starting. To confirm this I jump started the car this morning and even with 13.5V provided from the good car it still was struggling and took several attempts, although a bit more convincingly than on its own. The only way I can get it to start is to hook it up to a running good ca…

Hi all, Who's had an engine done recently? I'm trying to get a feel for a price to rebuild a stock L28. At the moment, I am staring at an invoice from ATK for $1,695 plus a $195 core. Back when I had my L24 rebuilt (in 1989), it cost me around $1,500. So, this might not be such a bad deal. What do you have into your engine rebuild? -- Mike

I have a 76 280z that I am restoring. I've seen a snorkle attachment on later models that connect the air cleaner to the right side air vent above the hole where the engine harness passes through the radiator wall. Is this a part of the original 76 280z setup or is it only found on the 77-78 models?
