I have an early 240Z (VIN around 7,000 or so) that has an E88 head. Does anyone know when Nissan made the change over from the E31 to the E88? Thanks. Koreavet

Hiya, does anyone know where I could get a samuri conversion for a 240z in Australia(W.A if possible)? If not could someone tell me the complete list of exact modifications/parts needed? Also could someone tell me what the engine modifications/parts used in the rally 240z? Thanx

Hi Backfiring is something that I know about but I'm not 100% sure of WHY it happens and HOW it can be bad for your engine. My car backfires a bit when I am at 3000 or over going down a hill... it sounds kinda cool but I'm not sure how bad it is, if it is at all? Could someone please explain for me and probably some others here too what the cause(s) are for backfiring engines?

Well, my current plans include a K&N intake, some larger exhaust tubing w/ better flowing muffler, and an electric fan for my 76 280z. Browsing around ebay I came across a few cams designed for the l28, one for idle-5000, and one for 1800-55000rpm. I'd like to move the power down a little bit, with a little more torque off idle, even if it means sacrificing some high-end power. Will a new cam help accomplish this? And, more importantly, how involved would a cam swap be? I think I can handle the intake/exhaust/fan stuff ok, but that doesn't involve opening the engine up. Is it a simple drop-in basically? I'm really not much of an engine person (yet), and I don't want h…

Can any one tell me from experience what to expect to pay for an L24 Short Block Rebuild? Using my own block (no core charge), standard rebuild, no extras, nothing fancy, just a good solid short block rebuild. I'd add the timing stuff and head, and install in the car. Thanks. Carl :classic:

Alright here is the story I have a bunch of motor head friends all with suped up cars and my 72 240z does seem to be matched. I have read many threads on performance but they don't ever fit my specific wants. I do not want to change engines, seems to me it is stealing from the cars originality if I do that. I also do not want to change out of my Su's. Fuel injection would definitely help on performance but it would also make the z unoriginal. Turbos are also so much of a change it is almost like a new engine so I don't want to do that. I know some of this sounds weird but I want to try to keep my z as original as possible while still getting as much out of performa…

Does anyone out there have experience with swapping radiators into a 240Z? I am looking for some more cooling - I now have a 3 core 240 rad. I want to go bigger than a 280 rad and was wondering if anyone has heard of other applicatons including hoses that may fit in a 240. thanks

My 1973 240 starts to lose power after 10 minutes of driving. It gradually slows down to a crawl and then quits. I had the fuel system checked and it is OK. Any suggestions? Casey

I've got a 78 280Z that I'd like to quiet the exhaust down on. Here is the current setup: Stock engine MSA header 2.5" pipe 28" glasspack next drive shaft Small turbo muffler at rear Right now I get a loud resonance at around 2000RPM. I added the glasspack this winter hoping it would quiet it down, and it did, but not nearly enough. I'd be willing to go back to the exhaust manifold if needed, but I would like it to breath almost as good as it does now (pretty decent high RPM power). I'd rather not go to a stock setup, but I just might. What are others running? What is the best combination that will keep the sound level down, but not choke the exhaust flow. Any suggestion…

javascript:smilie(':stupid:') I have noted a number of comments on the site about not raising the compression beyond 9.0:1 due to fuel considerations. In the past, with American V8s, the rule of thumb was, that you could raise the CR by one point if using an aluminum head. Why doesn't that work with a Z head (L-6)? Further, does anyone have a rule of thumb for how much the compression goes up on a N42 or 79 head per thirty thousands (.030) cut/milled off head surface? I read on another site, that an eighty thousands cut on a P99 would raise it to appx. 10.0:1, but this is the 81-83 head with the larger combustion chamber/raised deck (8.3:1 to begin with). Also, when usi…

I live in London and have relatives in L.A. It seems the best place to buy parts is the states. Just wondering if anyone can give me a hand with names of firms in and around Los Angeles for ordering parts. I get over there every now and again and can pick up and take the parts back home avoiding cost of shipping etc. At the moment I'm looking to do the Eibach upgrade for my 71 240Z. Who would I contact for springs and spacers? Any help would be appreciated. Saint:ermm:

It's just about oil change time (or flush the abuse out from the previous owner time) on my ZX and was wondering (since I've owned my car 4 months and some of you are tackin' decades) what grade oil to use now that I'm done using the cheap stuff for normal new purchase routine maintenance checklists (plugs, filters, rotor, oil change(s), etc) Here are my details: Car: '81 280zx GL 5-speed non-turbo Engine: L28E FI Mileage: 177K original (no rebuild...yet) Location: Central NC (summer weather ranges 70-95 degrees F) Driving style: Shift between 2400-3000 RPM (I'm easy on my old motor) Desire: a reliable daily driver (good mpg, decent performance, and most of all, longevit…
