My car doesnt have a very steady idle. Somes times it will idle ok but then most of the time it idles pretty high. I jus recently found a very bad blow by hose and had it replaced. Now its idels jus fine right when i first start the car, then it jus goes up slowly. then for about the rest of the time it idles around 1300-1500rpms I've replace the intake portion that goes after the air flow meter with a good one. Replaced the bad vacuum hoses. but it still idles very unsteadily.can some one please help me out.

It's Sunday and that usually means play with the car day. Today I took the rocker cover off to inspect the gasket as it was leaking some oil in a couple of corners. First thing I noticed was the bolts were loose (the handiwork of the gasket over time) and thought 'ok, the oil leak could be due to the loose bolts'. Having a look at the gasket reinforced my initial thoughts about the bolts as it was still rubbery and not really worn out besides one corner where there was no leak anyway. After having a good look around and taking some pics I put the rocker back and tightened them a little. I guess I'll know next week (I only drive my car on weekends) if the leak is actua…

Looking into if poly or solid mounts(isolators) are available or useful. Car is a 280Z built for road racing with a mildly modified motor.

I'm cotemplating dropping an 81 L28E into my 77. What's difference? I plan on modifying/rebuilding the L28E (cam, etc.), and when I'm done, doing the switch. Should I use the ECU from my existing 77, or should the 81 ECU be used?

I have 72 su's on my 260 and the linkage or the throttle cable (or some other cause that I don't know) seems to be sticking. I am not sure which one, but when ever I am in 1st or 2nd gear the car jumps when I step on the throttle because something is sticking. The only reason I think it might be the linkage on the su is because when the engine is warmed up it is not as sticky. My dad talked to a datsun mechanic and he said that many z's are like this or worse. The way it feels when I drive I know that there has to be some way to fix it. It could be as simple as lubricating the carb linkage or changing the throttle cable, but if you have any ideas or your are experienci…

Hi, I have a '78 280Z with the stock L28 engine. The only modification to it is a K&N filter and large diameter intake tube. Anyway, my problem is, a while ago I started hearing a whooshing noise when I revved the car. It doesn't matter if it is in gear or not, and it gets louder the more revs I give it. It comes from the front of the car, near the fan. I have read that the water pumps on Zs can be weak, and everything else seemed to be in order up there, so I tried replacing that, along with the fan belt for good measure. I put it all together and drove it today and went a few miles running fine, but then the noise came back. The car runs at temp with fine oil…

Has anyone here successfully installed a junkyard or generic (read: cheap) electric fan on a Z? I have a '78 280Z and I am looking at the $130 electric kit for sale through motorsport auto, but I am also looking at just replacing the fan clutch or possibly getting an electric fan from somewhere else. Does anyone know how to do this or where I could find out about it?

i hav a 280ZX n/a...i wanna go turbo. i hav heard statements about just buying the turbo motor & install it. but if the CR is 8.X:1 & the ZXturbo is 7.X:1, all modern engines use 8.X:1 for turbos...why can't i use my orig. motor & put a turbo header, custom FMIC & rebuild the fuel system + turbo ECU? Honda guys do it?

Hi all, as the car is on axle stands to renew the front bushings, i found it a good opportunity to inspect under the car.. I found a wire dangling out from the oil sump that has a connector on the end. What is this wire for and where do i reconnect it too? I looked but couldnt seem to find a place for it to go.. Thanks.

Is it possible to install oil rings upside down? Or are the scrapers the same shape - topside and bottom side? I have not installed the new valve seals yet, but i keep thinking about other possibilities. When the engine(freshly honed & ringed ) is idling it smokes alot of oil smoke. When i shut it off it drips oil out of the open header. It only drips from the pipe that comes from the front 3 cylinders. Thats a lot of oil going through the combustion chambers don't you think?? Any thoughts on this?? - Jeff
