Head specs

I'm trying to have a head (N42) rebuilt. I want to have the old seats replaced and have a 3 angle job on the valves. The machine shop said he would need to have the specs to do the job properly. Mainly he was concerned with the valve height, how much should the valve portrude at the top of the head and where do you measure it from? Also the maximum amount the head could be shaved before having to use shims on the cam tower. Can anybody help me here? Thanks

Has anyone tried (or knows someone who has) to raise the compression in a fuel injected engine. I have an F-54 block that I had thoughts of putting an N-47 head on. I'm going to completely rebuild the engine, so a new cam and that sort of equipment isn't out of the question. I also have a set of SU's, but everyone that I've talked to says to stay with injection if that's what I have. I think that the carbs are the flat top, but I can't remember right now. I don't want this engine for drag racing, but I may do some autocrosses or other track events as well as street driving. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Is this possible? I did some calculating, and figured that i'dd need to bore it .1051 to get it there. This wont disrupt the heating properties of the engine. Will it over heat like a mad man, or will it work fine? To bore, or not to bore? That is the question.

Ok....so I know this is going to sound wierd and strange but I do really need some help with this one. Here's the deal: The block breather tube (the one that comes out of the block underneath the carbs and in front of the exhaust, with me here?) on my original engine was :tapemouth REMOVED!!!! by the PO. For whatever reason I don't know. Here's my problem. I have another block that still has one it. How the hell do I remove it? I have tried using adjustable pliers and Vise-grips but all it seems to do is bend the tube or start to ruin it. I'm at a loss on this guys. I want the original engine for my car rebuilt and in the car, but I really can't go any f…

i have an L16 that has a dead cylinder. my neighbor's boyfriend said he could get a hold of another head that has been ported and polished. what other things need to be done if this head is different from what I have? I'm going to have the engine yanked because there's an oil leak, and a buddy of mine may be able to do the rebuild for me. the engine's gonna have to last me a while...

HI ther ya'll! What's the word? I just got another engine for my car. I was thinking of rebuilding it. It's an l24. I was thinking about putting in an l26 rotating assembly with an e31 head. Is this possible? Will the valves on the e31 hit the pistons? Has anyone ever tried this? I wonder what the compression ratio will be. I would figure try to figure it out, but i can't find the cc's of each head. Any ways, let me know what ya'll think.

Ok at the end of summer just befroei put my baby aways, there was an exaust leak right at the engine. put your hand there and u can feel the blow comming out. So I called somewhere and they said "there is no gasket" that goes between the head where the exxaust comes out and where the manifold meets the head. Well some one on here told me that there is a gasket. So when i get one, should i be going from underneath the car to take the manifold off? I am pretty clueless on how to adjust the carbs so don't want to mess with those much, maye i'll learn how to do that stuff this summer. Anyways how to i go about gettign at the exaust area? jack it up and go. or do i have to re…

I went ahead and took my car out for a drive today. Well it was fun for a little bit, at least until I opened my hood. I recently posted and was told that my head gasket was bad or my head was warped, due to a brownish slug in the coolant lines (being oil and coolant being emulsified, and that I should try to flush my system. I went ahead and tried. I let the water go through the system after the thermostat and had no luck. I cannot get any water to run through my manifold, no matter which side I run water in at. Does anybody know a way to unplug the coolant system. Or should I skip this step and start to look for a new motor. Let me know Frankenstein Z
