I was adjusting the valves on on my 73 240 and noticed that the rocker arm pivots have a large variation in their height in relation to the head, causing the angle of the rocker arms to vary significantly with respect to the cam lobes(I assume due to wear). All were adjusted successfully, but a couple of the valves were getting close to the point where I will not be able to adjust them(not enough room for two wrenches) if there is much more wear on pivot and/or rocker arm. The head just received a valve job and all springs replaced. Is it necessary to replace the rocker arm or the pivot or both? Which part usually wears out first(lash pads, cam lobes, and rocker arm w…

I just had the engine completely rebuilt in my 72 240z. After about 100 miles I noticed coolant seeping along the head gasket down the side of the block (oil filter side). It also runs a little hotter than before the rebuild but not too hot (just a little past 1/2 on the gauge, on the M). Could it just be a bad gasket? Or could the head be cracked? I had the head done at a good machine shop. I had no problems before. The engine ran good it just smoked badly and used a lot of oil. Should I replace the gasket or get the head checked again?

I recently went to a local muffler shop to inquire about a 2-1/2 inch exhaust system. They said they could only replace it from where the two collector tubes connect back -- no so good since this is currently about a 1-1/2 inch pipe. They said I would have to purchase the collector pipe elsewhere. Where can I get the piece that goes from the stock manifold to a 2-1/2 inch collector? If I buy the kit from MSA, does this include pipe from the manifold or just the collector?

Due to rust I need to replace my exhaust system. I do not need anything really much different from stock. Might only replace from the split back. Possibly a deeper sound but not noisy. Do I need to replace both the resonater and muffler? Is there a shop in the Portland, OR area that anyone recommends that could do a good job and give me some advice? Stock 1972 car.

I have a '73 Z I've owned since new. My memory is fuzzy regarding the recall where the dealers added the electric fuel pump and wrapped the fuel lines. My mechanical pump has been by-passed entirely. Was this a part of this modification? Why would they have done this? I can't see why it would hurt to have both operating. Are there any old time Z guys with a better memory?

Well the clutch on my 72 240z is finally takeing a crap, won't even spin the tires dumping into 1st anymore. So pretty soon its time for a new one. I'm wondering what kind you reccomend. I'm wanting under $200, but the cheaper and better. I want something thats going to hold up for atleast a year with the way I drive. I'm more into "rev up to 6 grand and dump the clutch and make some smoke" as opposed to feathering the clutch when I race. I do race, not regularly, but I do my fair share of track and street raceing in the summer. Nothing seriosly done to the motor, just pretty much a stock rebuild with ported heads, and backcut valves right now. And intake and exhaust mod…

i decided to check the cylinder pressure on my 70 240Z. all were between 150 to 155. which to me is great. now the thing that has me bothered is that number 1 and 2 cylinder plugs where clean and just slighty tan and the rest were very dark tan almost black which i expected anyway because of it getting colder and me enriching the mixture. what would cause the first to plugs to be so clean and the rest somewhat dark and looking as if they had been run rich. (as they should look) any ideas thanks in advance EZ

Just curious if there were ever any dabblings with supercharging by the Nissan folks. Currently, a supercharged version of the truck has been available here in the US for a couple years, but I am not aware of it being offered in any other models. I'm wondering if the factory ever played around with it in the '60's or '70's for competition or in some obscure model. Come in: HS30-H. steve77

Howdy... Earlier today I was running the '74, I had an intake rocker arm come off under acceleration. All seems fine now, got 'er back on and adjusted it up, nice and quiet again and hitting on all six. What would cause this? It wasn't over revved, and hasn't seemed noisy. Motor seems fine, although tomorrow I think that I will adjust all the valves just to play it safe.... And yes I adjusted them hot.... Thanks! ~Brian
