Hello fello Zers I think my headgasket is on its way out. Or possibly warped or cracked head. Heres the scenario.... Start car in morning, no problem. Engine reaches operating temp no problem. Stop engine to get something from the store lets say 10 minutes. Start car, idles rough, and 10 sec. later I'm a stanley steamer! Were talk'in locomotive type steam out tailpipe! This lasts about 2 min, while its steamin' the idle has smoothed out. after the two minutes of steamin' all is well again. WTF! Here's some more to ponder. If upon getting to the store, I release the pressure in the cooling system, when I start the car after the 10 min in the store scenario, the car does …

Greetings, My "well I bought it for parts but I guess a little bit of work wouldn't be a waste of money" '71 now looks sufficiently well-dressed not to concern the neighbours, other for the fact that it takes a minute of turning it over b4 it comes to life if its been sitting for a few days. Various experiments have led me to the concusion that the fuel is draining from the bowls when it sits overnight. I'm assuming there should be some sort of one-way valve around the place preveting the good stuff from driaing away, but aren't sure where to start. Anyone have any suggestionswhre to look or alternative hypotheses? Cheers Damian Percy '71 240 in Adelaide, South Australia…

If you are running a late 70's L28 engine in an early 70's 240z, what is the best kind of radiator to use? Can you use a radiator from a 280z? Are they all interchangeable like the engines are? What is the recommendation. Thanks guys

Well, I am haveing some trouble...When I first got my Z it leaked alot of oil, I just kept filling it up. I finally did my first oil change on it since I'd got it, and replaced the filter (probally 4 years old, been sitting). Stoped my oil from leaking almost completly, I thought the seal around the filter was the problems then and haven't worried about it. I just got back from a 500 mile round trip in which my car used slightly less the 3 quarts of oil. The engine is in good shape, and I doubt hardly any of that was "burned", most just leaked out. I noticed spots all over where I parked the car, even after just 10 minutes. It looks to me like its comming from the front o…

This is what I plan on running in my 70 240Z autocross / street car L28 block E88 head + 280 valves + port & polish + milled gasket Triple 38mm Webers or dual SUs from www.ztherapy.com Bored to 2.9L 10:1 comp pistons shot peened rods 2 3/4 inch header w/ 2 3/4 inch piping all the way back 5 speed w/ R200 w/ a 3.90 Lightened flywheel I was thinking about the E31 head but its aquisition is quite difficult isn't it? If anyone knows where to find one for a relatively good price (sub $700US) I'd greatly appreciate it. Also, what about an N42 head with dual SUs? Also, a cam suggestion would be awesome...cant seem to find something I like.

My next thing to do on my list it the exhaust. I dont like the 6-2 MSA style header. I did see on ebay a hooker header part number 8116-8115. However, I cannot find a retailer for hooker headers that offer the datsun headers. These header are duals but they have flanges on them. Anyone know who sells them? T

Anybody out there running a 190 degree thermostat? And if so, where does the needle sit (on a stock '72) gauge? I noticed a while back that I had no thermostat in the system, so when I changed my water pump I also put in a new thermostat. I let it run after installation for a good twenty minutes and no over heat and good heat out of the defrost. Ran down to get a bushel of blonde lager and the damn thing overheated, not quite in the red, but definitly hot. When I finally did get the cap off, the coolant level was right where it should be. ?????????? Also, now that I have made these changes, upon a fairly modreate rpm, I hear a new noise in the heater core / valve tha…
