I am setting up my 260Z for racing and I'm planing my cooling system. The question is, on the right rear side of the head, there is a water outlet fitting that appears to go to the heater core. Can this be capped off or does it have to run back to the block at the lower radiator hose/ engine block connection? Britt

I was looking at some of the performance figures for these two engines and noticed the 240Z seems to have a better engine as far as the numbers for horsepower and torque are concerned. Why is this? Don't they share most of the same parts? Also, if they share the same pistons, where do they make up the longer stroke of the 260Z crank, in the rods? I have a 74 260Z with the E-88 head and the round top carbs and I'm always wondering how to get more out of it. Cam and headers are first on the list. Britt Boyette

What happens when you try to run without the throttle opener with the Hitachi HJG46W (round tops) carbs? I have a 74 260Z and I'm looking at different mods like getting rid of the EGR and the air injection system along with the throttle opener. Britt Boyette

i have piping that is about 2 3/4 inches wide, and i am afraid that it sits too low (the car is lowered 3 inches) and will be a problem. Are there any alternatives that i can do with the exhaust and still have a sound good and good performance?

My COOLANT hose that is ... The hose shown in the pic attached (thanks ken for the pic!!) is too long on my car - it has a kink in it so I guess not as much coolant is getting through as there is supposed to. I figure I can just cut a bit off the end, but I'm not sure if when I take the hose off whether coolant will spray everywhere! I undid the clamp a little bit and coolant sorta dripped/spurted out - the engine was cold btw. Can I take the hose off without having to flush all the coolant out ?

I moved this from the Tech forum, posted it there by accident... I was just wondering how long it takes to pull the engine out of my 72 240z? I'v never done it yet, but its developing a nasty oil leak on the front main seal, so I would like to freshen it up with some new gaskets and oil pump. I usually have school 5 days a week, but next 3 or more day vacation/weekend I'm wanting to do this. This engine is stock, dual carbs, all that good stuff, so it shouldn't be very difficult to do this would it? Only thing I'm worried about is exhaust. Where do I unhook it easiest? Thats the only think I hate about pulling engines is the damn exhaust, its such a pain! Thanks Also, wha…

Suddenly yesterday my engine started running much hotter than normal. So first thing I checked was all the cooling system stuff: coolant level (was low, couldn't tell how low), tubes, connections. No leaks. Had the system flushed and filled in the spring. I thought that maybe having filled the system in the spring, then not using the heater until this week caused my level to go down just enough to where it wasn't cooling properly. Turns out I was low by 3 quarts or so! Is this change in level normal for just operating the heater for the first after a coolant fill?

Hi guys I recently aquired a nice 240z. It is running an L28 F54 bottom end with E88 head and ZX valves. I've noticed on startup in the mornings it seems to burn at bit of blue smoke indicating some oil. I was wondering if the most likely cause would be valve stem seals or hopefully not oil rings. I haven't done a compression test yet but I do plan on doing it. The car had been sitting a couple of years with some minor use here and there. As I understand the valve stem seals are rubber arn't they? I've never really replaced/adjusted anything internally on an engine any deeper than the valve cover. However I'm eager to learn more about engine and plan on one day building a…

Hello all: It is time to get the short block of my L24 rebuilt, and I was wondering if any 240.org members had had good luck with any shops in the greater Sacramento (CA) area. Thanks in advance, Steve

No it is not a 4 banger. if any one knows anything of either the head or block please post , thanks beandip

I am not sure this tread will apply to you Uncle Sam Fanatics. Anyway, here in Europe Lancia came with one of the most unreal factory hot-road sedan. The 8.32 Thema is nothing more than a plain Sedan with a Ferrari V8 inside. I saw an ad the other day for a trashed Thema 8.32 and ... what if again ! So for you GTO replica owner, wouldn't you like to put a real Ferrari engine in your car? the engine was around 1500$ not cheap but it would have the real Ferrari badge on it. Performance wise it's kind of light at 215 hp, but that sound!!! To be honest it has not a good reputation (reliability, running cost) but it's still a lot nicer than a Chevy or Ford or Buick one. Don't…
