I bought a '73 240 in February and I am race prepping it from the ground up, including stripping the interior and installing a rollcage. The car itself was not pretty to look at, but had a lot of aftermarket items on it that were very nice. The previous owner installed a momo wheel, lowering springs, 3.9 R200 rearend, 80 something zx wheels, miata buckets, and a Nissan rebuilt L28 coupled to a zx 5 speed. I'm building up a 350 for the car right now, so I won't need the engine or tranny. The engine has 11,000 miles on it and is documented, so I'm pretty sure that I want to sell it and the tranny because it is such a strong motor. The camshaft is nice and shiny and when I d…

Guys lately (well really since my last carb tune), my 240 is stuttering at low throttle, like the fuel delivery is not there or I'm missing. But as soon as I step on it or if I'm traveling at higher rpm's, it's as smooth as silk. Any guesses as to what's wrong?

Hello fellow Zer's Here's the scoop, stock 72, my baby pulls really well up to 4500 rpm then starts feeling "unbalanced" and does'nt pull as well. Seems it should be smooth up till redline or close to it. The carbs have been rebuilt, and are sync'ed spot on. timing is on, valves adjusted etc. Compression is alittle low (150 psi) but even between all 6. Car sat for 5 years before I got her, so I'm think'in maybey the valve springs have weakened? Here's another possible problem- whats the total advance of this distributor? I'm getting about 10 degrees when i rap the throttle, is this enough? Any ideas? Thanks Dave

I've just pulled the valve cover off my Z, and noticed that the lobes on my Engine are slightly different colors. Some are very shiny, while others are dull. Below are a couple of picture? And I to guess that the valves are out of adjustment. Some always touching the lobes, while some do not? -- Chris

Ok..Thanks to 2MANYZs and Carguyinok I have a better understanding of what I have already and what is possible.. Having said that I think I'm ready to ask intelligent questions... I have a 74 260 N42 block bored .020(I think)w/Turbo flywheel, SU carbs, E88 intake, N42 head, dished pistons. I would like to raise the compression to about 10:1(I'm told anything higher requires special gasoline ) and reach Hp/Torque levels of about 200. I am looking to keep this a daily driver with good response from about 2500-6000 rpm. I'm not trying to make a racer, yet, but just a good off-the-line arse-spanker:devious: Now..I've been advised be some to seek a P90 head and flat-top piston…
