I installed the XR 70O purchased from motorsports with the thought it would increase my cars performance. I have a late year 260z with dome carbs. I really don't know if it does anything other then make my tach run a little screwy. What are your thoughts who has this setup and is it an improvement over the stock set up. Should I keep it or take it out and have a more steady tach? your thoughts

This is the one I had the broken bolt on the exhaust manifold. Next up was a leak down test. Only #4 and #6 passed (about 80psi/75psi), on the rest it was more like 80/30 and you could feel the air coming out of the exhaust port. The valve lash was loose but I will check it again anyway, prob do a video. So now I will pull the head and learn about valve seats and valves. There are several machine shops in the Orlando area, I plan to call https://southeastcylinderhead.com/ Monday and see if they have experience on L28 heads. I did not bother to pull any of the crank shaft caps to inspect the bearings. will do that after I get the head worked out. I did not do a reg compres…

I need to replace all the hoses in my 1970 240Z. Has anybody got a quick order guide, or something like that, that will help me get this done. Maybe even possibly something like buy a roll of three hose sizes?

Hey guys, Is there any data out there (like dyno numbers) how well the stock SU air filter box is working compared to 2 round K&N filters? I installed a K&N filter mat (for the stock air box) and did not buy round filters so far. Top end engine performance is not great, it feels like from 5000 rpm on no further power is gained. A/F ratio is spot on, though (wideband installed). Of course this could also be due to the relatively small SUs on a 3.1L stroker.. I just love the simplicity of SUs. And much more budget friendly of course :) BR

Hey folks - Last time I did a plug change, I used autolite plugs, and the car ran fine, but since it's been sitting, I'm going to go ahead and change the plugs for NGK. Now, I've seen a lot of people saying that BPR6ES is the correct plug, but NGK says that it's actually BPR5ES-11. I've also seen people say don't use the BPR model, just the BP instead. So naturally I'm confused, and searching gets me a lot of results from people with 240s, and I'm not sure if the FI on the L28 makes a difference. What do you use in your 280Z?

Anyone have a somewhat reliable count on approximately how many 240Zs are still left? I wonder if Carl Beck has some insight into this? There were approximately 172,000 sold........It would be curious to know how many restorable cars are left....eh? So many have been crushed....how rare are they? Guy

I've dinked around with several engines in the garage and have always wished I didn't have to mount a transmission to spin the motor. I thought of a possibility and had some scrap steel and time so worked up a quick mount, that actually works. I had started out using a spare starter and the back of an engine for measurements then realized that the backing plate on the engine has all of the necessary holes, a ready-made template. If you have a drill press, and a jig saw, it's not too difficult. A battery, starter, and the plate and I can spin a free-standing engine as long has it has a flywheel. The steel is 3/16" x 2 1/2" mild steel, hot-rolled I beli…

I have a friend here with a 72 Z with auto trans, that needs a new flexplate. The ring gear teeth are all chewed up. Rockauto has one listed for all the 280 and 280zx, starting with 75 but nothing prior to 75., Here is a link to the only they list for 75-83. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/nissan,1983,280zx,2.8l+l6,1209394,transmission-automatic,flexplate,8608 What are the chances of it fitting the torque converter on the 72? I suppose you could get a matching torque converter and flexplate (they list both in the 82 stuff) if there something unique with the early converter. I know there are hundreds of you out there intimately aquainted wi…

Well I'm in the process of removing my 3.1 classic stroker engine for sale, and decided to do a bit of measuring and testing before it leaves so the new owner has an idea of what to expect and what service it might need. It has been in service for quite sometime. I wanted to do a leak down test, and the best way to do that is to remove the rocker arms and keep all the valves shut. That way as you apply compressed air to each cylinder, if and when the piston gets pushed to the bottom, it doesn't move the cam and open any valves. This way you don't have to get and maintain perfect TDC while you do each test. So I merrily proceed to remove my rockers. As I begin re…
