If I do in fact as I suspect have an N42 block and an N42 head..Can I replace the dished pistons with flattops..? I've been told that if I do it will raise my compression and therefore give me more power..I currently own a 74 260 with an obviously later year l28. The engine has been bored out .020, I think (The former owner wasn't sure how much)and I'm dseperatley seeking more torque..I also believe that I have a second stage cam, SU carbs, and a turbo flywheel. I have no idea how much torque or Hp I currently have but my goal is 200-220 hp..Any ideas..? Thanks in advance

Heya--I've got a L26 that I'm putting fresh air filters (K&N) and a freer flowing pipe on. I may put a new cam in it in the near future, but that can wait. As long as I have the carbs off, should I be increasing the main jet size? As for parts, should I shop further than what's in the Motorsport catalog? How is the 17033 cam in there? The springs? I've heard that Crane is good? What about the Taylor spark plug wires? I already have an upgraded distributor--a high perf coil worth going to with the wires? This is more of an FYI than a question but I did think it worthy to mention: I swapped out my stock 180F thermostat along with a brand new thermostat upper and lower housing in the Z yesterday. The new thermostat I put in is rated at 160F. As a result my temp needle which used to roam between the "M" and "P" of our temp guage during these past few weeks of SoCal 90F heat now is locked and will not move from between the "T" and "E". I am surprised that a 20F difference in thermostat temperature would make that big of a difference in our temp guage but then again seeing just how poor the rest of Nissan wiring is on our cars... who knows, right? :stupid: -e

This '79 I am dismantling had the lower end of a N47 in it. The front three pistons have a "2 3" stamped into the top and the back three have "3 4". What does this mean? Also the tops of them are scratched somewhat like someone scraped the carbon of them with a putty knofe or something. A couple of them look like someone too a file to the uppermost lip around the dishing. Also, what is the acceptable 'loosness' of a block? With the head off (obviously) and the disty/oil pump removed, I can quite easily turn this thing over with my right hand with the damper pully while 'feeding' the timing chain through my left hand. steve77 steve79 is fast becoming a large pile on …
