Okay, I'm reassembling things after replacing the bushings on a 1975 280z. This piece fastens to the differential crossmember. It's made of 1/2" steel plates and weighs about 10 lbs. What's its purpose? Does it have a name? Is it necessary? not to scale:

My friend's '72 240Z Series 30 is a garage queen that is a family heirloom. My friend is disabled, so I help him with it occasionally. It is started occasionally and run for awhile to get the engine warmed up. It now won't start - at all. The starter spins it well, and there it has a half-tank of gas. I pulled the No. 1 spark plug, which was a little dirty, but not particularly fouled. We cranked it over, and there was pretty good spark. I disconnected the discharge side of the fuel pump at the front carb, and cranked again. Gas is flowing in even pulses from the end of the hose. Took off the air cleaner and tried again with no result. Throttle linkage seems to be w…

I have an oil leak at the rear of the engine at the front of the trans. It is coming from above the oil pan, so I am pretty sure it is the rear main seal. What is the best way to replace this seal? What else should I do/replace while I'm in there? Chris

I've got a 5-speed (FS5W71B) from a 280Z and I'm trying to get in to replace the front input shaft seal. I have removed the shift fork and all the bolts holding the front cover on. The cover won't budge! I didn't want to pry on it too much. Is there a secret to getting the cover off? Thanks

So I found a 73 240z for sale in Oceanside that's been for sale for quite a while becuz in my opinion the seller is asking too much. I talked to him today, got some good information. I'll put the link below. Here's the scoop: - 3 liter stroker made from an L28 block with ported E88 head and a hot cam. - 5-speed transmission out of an early 80's 300ZX turbo - R200 LSD http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/cto/1604300964.html All of this information is at his word. Obviously one cannot pull the head off the engine to look, but are there ways to visually tell if the diff and other things are legit? The seller is pretty fixed on getting his asking price for the car despite a…

I'm currently shopping for a 240 for a Solo car and occasional parade/street use. I'm finding alot of info, but one thing I couldn't answer was what makes the R200 diff so much stronger than the R180. Besides the LSD availabillity (since I'll likely buy a Quaife or other Torsen or Haldex type diff) is it simply the difference in ring diameter that makes the R200 stronger? BTW I'll also eventually get custom gears made for it, as there is a VERY good local shop for that where I live. P.S... While I'm at it, I'm looking for all the pictures and descriptions I can find of different exhaust setups (in particular I remember hearing about a duel exhaust using a 6-2 header, wit…
