I've suspected for some time, since I did my first Z-Therapy taught carb tune, that I was running too rich. Excessive exhaust, bad mileage, and finally, black plugs with wet plug holes. So apparently, I need to lean my mix up. How do I go about this? Do I go through the entire procedure of backing out the idle pins and resetting the mix nuts, or can I just go straight to the mix nuts? Also, the part that confused me the most the first time I did my carbs, was the direction I was supposed to be turning the mix nuts. The engine service manual procedure says, "Idling fuel flow volume is reduced by tightening the idling adjusting nut (turning it to the right), and is incre…

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1824241858 Were they really two versions of the E-88 head? And if it does exist is there really a big performance difference?

I am guessing the vast majority on this site are carbies, and probably a fair chunk of you do not have EI...BUT...since this is a very cool site and will soon be THE place for 1st gen's to hang out, I will ask anyhoo... Car runs really really good. Sent it in for a valve adjustment and general systems going-over (there are some things I don't do!) and mech says vacuum advance is not operating. Is this why it won't pull below 3000? So I start checking around...Here's the question: I think this might be a good time to change the whole disty. I don't want to create any problems though. I want something designed for the car. Something that requires NO modification to th…

I was given a 1973 Datson 240Z that was parked in a garage in 1988 because the battery had died. The car was in working order in till then. The car has 100K miles on it and was maintained very well until it was parked. No prep was done to it for storage. My questions are about what maintenance should be done to get it street ready again. Do you know where I might get an engine manual for the car? I will need it for the tune up specks. Listed below are the Ideas I have. 1. Remove spark plugs and spray some WD40 into the cylinders and turn the engine over by hand to insure that the pistons are not seized. Do this a few times to insure that the pistons and rings do not stick…

Ok. (LONG STORY FOR SHORT PROBLEM, SORRY...) I don't have a garage, so as usual my car sat outside under a car cover, but it was so windy yesterday that I had to remove the car cover (wind blew it off), so my Z ( :( slept outside in the rain for the whole day. I was able to borrow a free place in the garage of my step-father last night, so I start the car full choke, no prob and parked it inside. Off. This pm, I start the car again to put it out of the garage, full choke, and it ran well for 30 sec, then, the car did start to shake, RPM bouncing on anf off like crazy, and the car almost stall even with gas... Now the idle is pretty rough, and I did check under the h…

hey there, finally got my car running pretty smoothly, however, the water temp gauge doesn't work at all, and the oil pressure stays around 0 when idling. with the water temp gauge, i'd appreciate it if someone could take a pic of that area in front of the engine, as the guy who i bought it from had no respect for proper wiring at all, and i suspect he just stuck wires whereever he felt like. how would i go about checking it out? with the oil pressure, i've read over what other folks have said about it, what would i do after checking it by putting it to ground? can i buy the sending unit from anyold auto parts store? ok, thanks for all your help!

Alohas, Okay...I've just about had it w/ my 67 Bug. Has anyone ever spent over $5k on hi-po VW parts only to have it all crap-out on you when go to break-in the engine? Well...I have. I'm sick of it. So, what does this have to do w/ 240Z's ? Well...before I jump into another automotive hobby, I would like to know how reliable Datsun/Nissan engines are. How good is the aftermarket for parts? Do you have a few innovators in the market, who are then copied by a bunch of sub-par in quality manufacturers? Or, are most of the aftermarket components fairly well made? FYI - If you live in Hawai'i and have a Z car for sale...I'm interested. mahalos, Joel

Z fans, Lately, I’m having trouble starting up my Z…(fuel injected) Every morning, it takes about 5 to 10 minutes just to get the Z running…the engine would turn over but after I turn the ignition, it dies. I would have to pump the gas pedal every time I turn the ignition until I can get the engine to rev high. Once the engine is warm or running, the problem disappears…Purchased 2 bottles of fuel injector cleaners but no luck…I’m wondering, could it be my fuel filter or dirty fuel injectors?? Need your input please... no time and money to spend extra cash for a mechanic to check. Thanks, Cel

Alohas, I've always thought Z cars were pretty cool, but I really don't know that much about them. If I were going to start looking to buy one, which model years are the "best" and what should I look for? I'm a aircooled VW guy right now, but its nice to try something different every now and then. What kind of performance can I get out of a Z car? Do you guys favor naturally aspirated engines or forced induction? Also, are parts expensive for these cars? I'm guessing it would be more than VW parts, but less than, say a Porsche? Any replies would be a real help. I just saw the coolest Z car on the road today and loved the sound, so I had to find someplace to get mo…
