I have '72 carbs on my '73, and I assume i have a '73 intake manifold (smug stuff is long gone)... there are a few (3? 2 behind each carb?) vacuum attachment points that aren't plugged on my manifold, with 1 being used by my distrib's vacuum advance. Am I right in assuming these should be plugged? And if so, what should I use? Any other ones that I should check for? My engine runs great once warmed up now that it's tuned up a little, but still runs like crap when cold...

I know this is kind of a silly question but just out of curiousity... What kind of fuel mileage should a '77 (still L28/N42) be getting, just any ballpark figures?

This might sound like a really elementary question, but what kind of oil do i put in the SU carbs? and how do I know when I've put enough? Do I just fill it till the dip stick thingy on top is covered in oil?

I'm looking at the parts on K'N air filter. I found the part # 56-1410 for Sus. Is it 2 parts, one for each carb, or is an oval shape like the OEM box? Or does someone knows the # for the drop-in K'N??? Any other brand of filter to suggest?

Ok, the car mechanics who did the inspection on my Z worked a lot on old Datsun (he owned a 510 and a 260Z). Remember, I asked you advice on the blue puff of oil that was coming out of the car... I saw it today (so did the mechanic) and the diagnosis, was worn oil ring piston...The bill might be heavy (around 1500$US he told me.. (I'm skeptical) and Datsun garage don't show at every corner in Montreal... His recommendation was to try an oil treatment for the segments, and to run my car with 20W50 (I did use that on my GTI16V 1990) to cure athe same kind of problem, and it was working well. Any recommendations, denying, or should I follw his recommendation?

I installed a new choke cable assembly from MSA last night to try and clear up the "kludge" of 2 individual choke pull-handles mounted under my dashboard... In taking everything out, I found out why it was there: It looks like 1 of the original choke cables (half of which were still in the car attached to the original, broken, choke lever) broke, and one of the moutning points for the choke lever under the console was broken off. So, I removed the kludge and the old cut-off factory choke assembly and installed the new cable assembly. I just put a sheet metal screw through the top of my console, because it's in rough shape anyway In trying to get everything adjusted and…

Hello Zer's Since I'm new to the Z, I just picked up a 72 240. I've gone through the brakes and am now in the engine compartment. These cars seem to use alot of pre-formed hoses. Where can you get them at a fair price? I would like to stay with the stock braided type. My vacuum brake assist hose is in real bad shape and would like to replace it, along with all the other hoses. This car has been sitting for a few years and I'd like it to be my daily driver. Thanks in advance, Dave

Kiora Ivan, just saw your post on "introduce yourself to the class thread" and noted you are in NZ. I'm a Kiwi returning to CHCH in Sept and need to rack your brains about 240 market value, availability, lack of parts in NZ etc. While I'm over in the UK I have a better chance of getting hold of those "rare bits" that I think I will have trouble finding in NZ. Email me at work if you can help me out. mailto:jcairns@indala.com Cheers:D

I'm relatively new to working on cars, but I thought I could fix my leaky water pump. I was wrong. I had a pretty bad leak from the water pump that caused me to have to pour water into the radiator every 100 miles or so. 1. Finnaly I removed my old water pump and cleaned and sanded both surfaces. 2. I applied a silcon gasket sealant between the gasket and the new (slightly used) water pump and promptly installed it. 3. I put the fan and belt back on. 4. Then I poured water back into the radiator to test it for leaks. I noticed a very slight leak. 5. I took the car for a short test drive and when I got back the car didn't appear to leak much at all. 6. Next day, after…

I own a 70z (6/70 manufacture date) in very good shape, except the engine uses alot of oil. High miles, but the odometer is not actual. I am weighing the pros and cons of rebuilding this engine, or replacing it with a Jasper remanufactured engine. I'm interested in all your opinions! I lean towards the Jasper option because of the 36 month, 72 K mile warranty. Thanks, Erik:confused:
