My radiator has a small tube on the filler neck where the overflow hose connects, and it broke off! I can push the tube back in, so I think I can at least drive it to the shop that works on radiators (Rad Air) but is this something that can or should be repaired (soldered back on) or would this be an opportunity to upgrade the radiator? There are few, if any, actual radiator repair guys left. I was wondering if switching to an electric fan would be a good idea. The stock fan is working fine, but it seems to be a bit of a drag on the engine, until you get on the freeway. I have a Duralast replacement for the stock alternator; I wonder if I'm taxing the electrical…

Hello all, I purchased my auto 240z back in 1998 and the guy I bought it from gave me a manual transmission and some other bits to do the conversion. Well 20 years later I'm thinking its something I want to do. The problem is I have no idea what transmission I have. I browsed through the interwebs, but the seems to be an endless number of combinations. I don't even know if it's 4 or 5 speed (the box o bits came with knobs for both). I would greatly appreciate any insight you might have. Cheers, Scot P.S Sorry about the quality of the photos. The transmission is buried at my parents place.

Can someone please tell me which way the arrow (see attached picture showing arrow on side of mount) is supposed to point for proper orientation of the rear transmission mount.

Gentlemans, This spring, in the name of citizen science, I've taken to trying different methods of cleaning spare parts that I've accumulated. These experiments have revealed some odd numerical stampings on a spare block, head and cam that I never noticed before (given that they were covered in crud before.) Admittedly I have not torn down many motors in my lifetime. But I am genuinely curious and my searches haven't revealed much. My best guesses are that the block was marked by a machine shop who had shaved off a .003", and perhaps, in an effort not to mix up customers components, stamped the cam and tower with the same numbers so that the re-assembler h…

I forgot about these but just came across the picture again. I figured they deserved a re-post.

Hello everyone. -I have a 3.0 motor that red lines at 7,200 rpm with triple mikuni's -I do not like the fact the tuner used a stock distributor and set the base timing at 20 degrees. The idle is not the best. -So I am going to do the electromotive XD200 programmable ignition with Hoke perf. trigger wheel/mount/etc. -Are there any timing recommendations from idle throughout the rpm range to 7,200 rpm? Thanks, GI

I have an early 5 speed transmission. I'm guessing it is from a '79. I had the transmission rebuilt recently. After the rebuild I didn't have 2nd and 5th gear. So I yanked it out and took it back to the mechanic. I put it back in Saturday and I still don't have 5th gear. It shifts flawlessly 1-4 and reverse seems ok, but when I put it in 5th it pops out when I let out the clutch. Before anyone goes there, the mechanic is used by many hear and considered to be reputable. I'm frankly pissed but I'm not going to call him out. My questions are: Does anyone have any ideas why 5th keeps popping out and if I leave it in for know and just use gears 1-4 am I going to mes…

Greetings Z buddies.... Been a while since I posted as I have been working my website and reignited an old passion of mine with collecting mechanical watches. Guess I am getting old.. But seriously... I have finally acquired a 5 speed from a 77 280Z and have been calling around to get it rebuilt. It seems to work fine on the garage floor.. Spins freely and feels smooth... but before I put it into my car, I want to go through it completely. Having said that I am getting prices to rebuild an old 5 speed in the 900-1300 dollar range. That seems excessive since I had my 4 speed redone for 650. well the mechanic in me sort of wants to give thi…

Hi, everyone, My first post... So, I am helping a friend with his 74 260z he just bought. Tried to get it running today. Once we got the firing order right (original owner had the firing order wired the wrong direction around the cap, no wonder it wouldn't run) It has a holley 4 barrel (390 or 450cfm haven't looked into it very much) The car has both an electric and mechanical fuel pump. We came to the point that no fuel was getting through the electric pump. After a little searching I just found out that there is a filter inside the pump we need to check out. But, anyways. My question is does he need to run the electric pump or do you think the mechanical pump will keep …
