Mine was missing, I got a correct one for it recently and decide it was time to install. well after about an hour of fussing with it last night I decided a different approach was in order. 1st remove the ECU and disconnect the fuel relay plugs. This gains a bit more clearance. next glue in the little plastic thing that mounts to the top of the dash, used some gasket cement. This keeps it from dropping out just at the wrong time. hook up the SHORT side of the spring to the clutch pedal (I presume this is correct, same as the brake IIRC). and maneuver the spring over the into the correct position. Depressing the clutch pedal makes this a bit easier (the …

I was going to post this in CO's "relocating the PCV valve" thread but it's fallen off the "Activity" page and I can't find it. Have y'all noticed that there is a wide variety of part numbers for PCV valves but they mostly look identical? Why is that? Why doesn't one size fit all? And will a PCV valve specified for a vertical application work the same if it's located horizontally? Is there a test for PCV valve function that is ore sophisticated than blowing air through it and shaking it to make sure it rattles? Why is there a spring only on one side of the internal valve? When does the valve close (it is a "valve" after all)? Just wondering if relocating …

I have two Nissan OHC valve covers from 240Z parts cars - one cover I personally removed from the engine of a 07/72 car. This cover matches the one on my car. The other cover was in the back of a 12/71 car and I presumed it came from that engine. Today I noticed two differences in the second cover: (1) the center section with Nissan OHC is raised the length of the cover to the oil filler neck and (2) the holes for the bolts to secure the plug wire brackets are smaller (the bolts and brackets were not on the cover). In checking the parts catalog, I find the same P/N for the valve cover across the L24/26/28 series - 13264-P0100. Any help on identifying where the second…

Howdy, Was able to get the motor running yesterday. I set everything TDC and realized that the dizzy shaft was 180* off. It makes sense why the motor was "backfiring" through the carb, the timing was off and perhaps a valve was still open when the little spark cam through. So I dropped the oil pump (3rd time) and got the dizzy shaft installed correctly. I noticed however on the restart of the motor after that initial "start" the starter seemed to struggle to rotate everything. (Bat tested 12.25v) I only ran it for a couple of seconds (1-2 tops), turned it off to inspect for leaks // oil. I noticed that the rocker chamber was super dry, no oil dry. Which is strange bec…

I'm posting a new thread hoping to get some feed back (Thinking about freshening up my suspension). If you have been there done this or know without a doubt the facts, please respond. My ASE mechanic friend and I just spent 6 hours trying to put the rear end/suspension back in to my car, a 1975. I am no further now then I was when I started, just frustrated and pissed. It should not have taken 2 hours tops. Long story, short... I removed the sleeves out of the mustache bar in preperation for my Prothane kit and now realize I should'nt have. I waited 2 weeks for new Oem bushings that are probably on indefinate back order and decided to purchase a used mustache bar in…

HIguys, I thought I'd mention something you might like to hear: I just received an endoscope via eBay, that works with my Android tablet. I think I'll "look into" my engine, *if* it gets warm, or whenever Spring comes along. It might be interesting to see what the pistontops look like. It's supposedly waterproof, but I don't think I'll be looking into the rocker box. It was about $10

Guys I need help here figuring this out. I have been fighting an oil leak in the rear main seal area which I have posted here. I have done everything including a speed-sleeve on the crank where the rear seal rides. I have always thought my oil pressure was too high on this engine, but discounted it because of the stock gauge. Today I installed a new oil pump(standard pressure and volume) and installed a mechanical gauge inside the car. No change. The oil pressure reaches 70psi before I get to 3000rpm. At cruise it will stay right at 70psi-cold or warm it doesn't matter. If I understand the pressure relief valve and how it works, 70 is the magic number as far as max pres…

How can you get the throttle torsion rods off the intake on a 280Z? I got a tin-zinc plating setup so I can plate exposed parts like that. thxZ

One suggestion by "experts" to help protect your car from being stolen is to disconnect the HT wire from the ignition coil, (or remove the rotor, mix up the spark order, etc.) but that seems like an obvious thing for a thief to look for, except for that last one. But what if you had some kind a "dummy wire?" Just disconnecting the HT wire means you will have arcing from the coil, which will harm the coil, and disconnecting only one spark plug will still allow the engine to run, albeit slightly poorly (BTDT ) so if you had a safe way to allow the HT charge to go to ground, the engine will turn over and everything will "look" like it should, but still not start. …

Would it be okay to mix Redline Gear oil 75/90 with MT-90 75/90 for my differential? I have half quarts of each left from previous changes and I want to change out the oil in a R180. Thanks for any replies, I haven't been able to find a definate answer searching the internet.

Im having an issue with cylinder #4 as whenever i race the car and make a couple of stops and leaving the car at idle for 5 mins in the garaje, spark plug 4 (NGK BP5ES) comes out fouled and sooty. I have both front and rear roundtop su carbs at 3 turns clockwise. All of the other plugs are burning correctly. Could my car be running only on 5 cylinders? mechanic says i need a valve adjustment but cold and not hot. Do you concur???? the car does not have the original cam but a Schneider 274F to compensate as my engine was bore to 2.6 L and not 2400 cc as original. http://schneidercams.com/274FL6.aspx Is a valve adjustment at cold required better than Hot?
