1st long distance drive (150 miles on Florida Turnpike) all good right up until I pull into my destination and then Steam... open hood coolant everywhere, I feel the fan pulley noticeable play and noise when engine running. I thought it sounded a little off when I headed out a 0 dark thirty, but guess the lack of caffeine had me not thinking straight . 2 hour later 70-75 mph before the steam.Auto zone 9:00 am do not have it but can have it by 3pm (Sunday). I did bring some tools but not my rad pressure tester. Auto zone comes thru and I get a rad tester (may keep it, nicer than my old one or AZ will refund me the entire purchase price). I was really fearing snapping…

I have had numerous people recommend the clutch kit from Exedy. I was wondering if this kit (# 06029) will definitely fit my 1972 240z l24 w/ 4-speed transmission, r200 swap, MSA cam/springs, 6-1 header, and 2.5 exhaust. Also, should I replace anything else while I am down there (ARP bolts all around, collar...etc)? Any help would be appreciated. My clutch seems to be slipping once I hit my max torque range. My clutch feels very light, I have not adjusted my clutch yet, though, I have a sneaking suspicion it is the clutch altogether. The only reason I am hesitant is that I am not sure since the clutch does slip in 1st, only 2-4th when I hammer down. I plan on buying the E…

Hey Guys, About a month or so ago I started having some issues with my transmission in my 77 280z. So I decided to remove it from the car and have a friend of mine rebuild it. We have ran into a few issues upon getting the case open and I could really use some input. First off the transmission is out of a parts car (my car was an automatic) the parts car was also a 1977 but it is unknown how many miles were on it. Anyways the transmission developed the following issues upon swapping it into my car. 1. Downshifting into first was impossible except when at a complete stop. 2. would not stay in 2nd or 5th gear while not under load. 3. Vibrations in the clutch peda…

Higuys, I've been looking into the flex fans, specifically the Flex-A Lite fans, and the variety of fan types is confusing. You can get 6-blade fans, 5-blade fans, fans with "wide blades and narrow ones: The first photo is a reverse-rotation fan (I think) and the other two are normal-rotation fans. I think I would select the 6-blade fan with the narrow 'paddles' although I'm not too sure what the difference would be between the narrow and wide ones would be, besides the amount of air flow. Any advice would be appreciated. I think it's a normal rotation fan. I'm not in a hurry; this would be a winter project. It'll take that long to figure…

Hi, my Datsun 260z has a really loud violent rear end knock. It only happens when I get the rpm quite high (above 3000) and then let off the throttle. It sounds like it's in the diff area but I could be wrong. I've had most of the rear suspension off recently and installed new springs and drop links. I've checked u joints and drive shaft bolts are tight, so I'm thinking its a bad mount. Anyone else experienced this? many thanks

Hello everyone I'm Lance. As you may saw earlier I bought a 240z with a L28 in it( The owner didn't even tell me he have a L28 in it until the car has been delivered all the way across America). Now the engine is out and apart and I'm ready to rebuild it. This engine is a N42 block with dished pistons and I'll guess it's a early one since the number stamped is small. It's got a E88 head and 3-screw SUs which I believe came with this car in 71. I'm not sure about the specs of the parts but it seems pretty stock to me. Anyway I have completely disassembled the engine and the block looks fine except those tiny tube inside coolant passage is broken (I removed coolant plugs an…

Howdy folks, I just completed the replacement of the oil pan gasket in my Z. Thanks to all the information posted on this site and on other sites I was able to accomplish this without lifting the engine. I just wanted to point out several things that really helped me out. Loosening the oil pick up tube was a big help. Using sewing thread to aid with keeping the new gasket attached was essential when wiggling the pan into place. The last was a 1/4 drive universal joint. I didn't have it taking the pan off, but I picked it up for putting it back on and it made doing so, so much easier. Cheers! ~MattS

A couple of months ago there was some discussion about Maxima diesel crankshafts and their rarity and high price. There's one on Portland Craigslist $700.00, along with a fresh, running L24 w-4 speed $1500.00, BW 5 speed $700.00 and some other NICE looking goodies. Post ID# 5779676531. He was gathering goodies to build a stroker but is going another direction now.

My 73 developed an overheating problem while on the interstate. I replaced the thermostat and radiator cap without result. It was running steady 180 for a couple of hours and then in about 10 minutes went up to about 240 and would not go down. Turning the heat on, no help. The fan belt seems to be tight and functional and the fan is turning. I was told maybe a head gasket or fan clutch. Any other suggestions? Thanks.
