I have a 5/71 240 that had "series 1" style center console fitment issues because the shift lever kept touching the front of the console. I found later that the transmission was replaced with the later Type B transmission. When was the Type B transmission in production? Was it '72 up to the last 280z's in 1978? Thanks Gary

In Wick Humble's book HOW TO RESTORE YOUR DATSUN Z-car, In the chapter on technical bulletins he mentions that in 9-5-1975, in order to dampen rear differential noise, Nissan made available a 10 lb lead weight that bolts ATOP the differential to quiet noise from the ring-and-pinion gears. Has anyone ever seen one of these and has a pic of one that they could post ? And I'm not referring to the one that attaches to the differential's rear mounting support studs to cut down on vibrations or the stack of metal plates that hangs (bolts) beneath the differential's front cross member. This is supposed to be a lead weight ATOP the differential? I just put a rebuilt diff in …

1972 240Z, L28 engine and head. Looks like I've got water in my oil. Before I rip into the top end, is there any other source for water in the pan other than a blown head gasket? I appreciate any advice. Thank you.

This is on my seventy six 2+2. Occasionally, after sitting for awhile I seem to lose the prime on my clutch pedal. I had this problem when I bought the car a few years ago so I put a new master cylinder and slave cylinder on it and bled all the air out of it. Well, it still occasionally happens so I have to pump the pedal a few times and then it "catches". So I don't know why it occasionally does this even after putting a new master and slave cylinder on it. But then I thought I'd check my pedal adjustment. According to the service manual, the first thing I checked was the distance from the top of the pedal to the toe-board (travel distance), which should be 8.78". …

Our 79 Datsun 810 is in need of a new cam. The lifters are bad. What would you all suggest? We were told a 280Z would fit in here, is this true? Where would we find the parts? It's a 79 Datsun 810 2 Door Coupe, straight 6 engine. Thanks.

I acquired a replacement R180 for my 73 240. It's a "K R180" later-type diff out of an 82 Maxima AT which was equipped with CV-joint halfshafts/axles and they do not interchange into the S30 for various reasons. Modern Motorsports offers companion flanges to use CV axles from a 280ZXt, but they only make flanges for 280Z style stub axles. Changing the wheel bearing stub axles to 280Z style means undoing the infamous axle nut...twice! And doing so, I'd better replace the bearings too. MM doesn't mention using other kinds of axles, like from the Maxima or maybe 200SX...? The 280ZXt axles are probably stouter...but the car's not a racer, so strength is not too critical as l…

All - I just recently had my stock cam reground by Isky to an L480 grind for my '72 240. I received a cam card with the cam but the information on the card was not correct I talked to Ron at Isky and he sent me a different cam card and it appears to be wrong too. Using a degree wheel and a piston stop, I have dialed in my engine for TDC but none of the open and close numbers on the cam card are very close to what we have actually measured. All measurements were taken at .050" valve lift with zero lash. I talked to Ron once again this past Friday and he said he would run some numbers and get right back with me, but I haven't heard back. Normally, this would not b…

Howdy, Attemping to verify the end gaps on the piston has got me confused. I attempted to put an ITM standard bore ring to measure the end gap, its around 1.70mm which is HUGE! I even went to another store, and got another set of ITM rings, and the end gap is still +1.56mm, when i put the standard top on in that came on the motor origionally its closer to 0.38mm, like a can fit maybe a strand of hair into the end gap. Is there something wrong with the brand? Or is that normal for ITM? i cant find any information regarding it online, but I assumed stock bore, ill go with stock end gap size....

Howdy Yall, Finished my summer course yesterday, got back into the garage to get some stuff sorted out with the Z. So I cleaned out the head with my soda blaster, went through washed it up several times, cleaned oil passages, and the top of the combustion chamber. I also cleaned the valve face, and above the seat up to the stem. Soda blasted the intake ones really well, for the exhaust i used a red scotchbride, with some WD40 in a drill to get the same area clean. I started lapping cylinder one, the exhaust side was fine, makes good contact now, but what i realized after i finished the intake was that it appears that the brass was …
