Is there anything else than the Spectre Performance cone filters that you can use on the rocker box? The biggest one in the AP stores only has a 10 or 13mm neck, and the tube on the top of the rocker box has an 18mm (3/4 inch) tube. I thought a small diameter inline filter would be better than a 2 inch cone, and I don't like piping the oil blow-by into the intake manifold Check the lawn mower or cycle shop maybe? thxZ

I was advised to have the driveshaft (propeller shaft) balanced after putting new U-joints, which is scheduled to happen this week. There's a new vibration last few weeks that may or not have to do with the U-joints. No vibration previously, and the driveshaft hasn't been altered or dropped, so balancing seems unnecessary to me. But maybe I'm wrong.

I'm putting together my conversion to SU's from the weber DVG's. I think I have everything but the heat shield, and I just realized that thats how the throttle spring return attaches. If you have a spare i'll take it off of your hands. The SU's are round tops if that makes any difference.

Hello all. I just put in a F54/N47 combo into my 240z. The cam/rockers have some burn/wear marks on them. My original plan was to run this for the time being, and send in the old L24 cam off to rebello for their cam kit, and the rockers off to delta for a refresh. I'm now thinking a smarter idea would be to send the N47 cam/rockers away for a refresh since they are not in the best shape. Not having done any head work before, can I swap the cam, rockers, springs retainers and lash pads from the l24 head onto the l28 without any drama? I assume I'd have to check the wipe pattern no matter what as the seats may be different heights? The bonus side to this, is the l24 has a m…

5sp from '81 zx non-turbo came with an engine that i re-built, was said to be fine, so all i did was replace the front & rear seals before installing. noticed 2 things during install: 1 - the return spring plug was removed and in a bag of misc parts along with the shift lever pin & boot. the plunger was missing, so i poached the one from my '78 4sp along with the matching springs & plug. 2 - when i checked shifting (before putting in boot cover) the striking rod pulled out exposing the o-ring seal. the stopper guide pin was out (i found it in the aforementioned bag of goodies). i rotated it back/forth a bit until i could jigger it back in, then installed …

I was looking around on eBay to see if there was a nicer battery hold-down bar, and found this item, called a Battery Stay Fire Wall Plate It's for the 28Z and says it's OEM stuff, but I've never seen it in any parts diagram or service book. Does anyone really know what is is? ThxZ

I got my repaired and re-worked E31 cylinder head back on. The work was done by a very reputable local machine shop and have full confidence everything was done to the highest quality spec. You can see what all was done here -> http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/49581-hardways-1971-240z-8011-build-and-repair-thread/page-6 With everything back together and the engine running I noticed I had a pretty loud tapping sound from the cylinder head. Before I ever started the car I did an initial valve job setting everything to factory spec, .008 for the intake and .010 for the exhaust. Once I heard the tapping sound last weekend I called it a day and came back this morni…

Hi A friend of mine has some problems with his Z, and is about to give up so I want to give him a helping hand He was out driving when suddenly the engine went sour and stopped. This was about a year ago. Since then we have tried lots of things, like new plugs, new plug cables, different distributor, new coil, ignition adjustment ++ When we changed the distributor we got it running good, but it only lasted for a short trip and then back to the same starting point. Here's a video of how it is at the moment: https://youtu.be/7Jx_rV4Z62s Can this be carb related? All the plugs are getting wet, but it sounds like it's only igniting on one or tw…

My friend has -73 240z with auto transmission, and im asking this on behalf of him as he dont speak english. It changes gears really roughly, i mean the whole car goes like BUMP. I already suggested that he changes oils in it but is there any other adjustments you can make to it externally to perhaps smoothen it up?

There is a tempting deal not too far from me on a complete rebuilt short block from a 78 Z. I am considering picking it up to replace my tired current motor until I rebuild the F54 turbo motor I kept from one of my other cars. It apparently has less than 2000 miles on the rebuild. The seller built up an F54 with flat tops & kept his head. The pistons, from the pictures are dinged up, and are what concerns me. Is this a major problem, will it cause any issues? Any idea of what could have caused it? Its only 90 miles away from me, is cheap, and if it is indeed a fairly fresh rebuild - new timing set, rings, bearings, etc. looks like a heck of a deal. …

I've got a decision to make, buy a 1 ton cherry picker and come at it from the side or buy a larger hoist and come in from the front. I've got limited space for storing the thing I'll use maybe once a year. Do many people do it this way? Thanks for any replies, Cliff

Well my r180 differential is in need for some love. It's getting pretty noisy and feels like it has some play in it. Unfortunately the local transmission shops here in Great Falls aren't interested in working on it. Can any of you recommend a shop to send it to? Cheers, Scot
