After 10 years off and on with the restoration of my 240Z, I have discarded two bodies, and am left with HLS30 28726, which is now totally rust free and painted the proper shade of orange. I have three transmissions, all of which are of the second generation pattern, that is to say the shift lever rises about 2 - 3 inches forward of the earlier ones, and the lever has an S bend. Problem is, the hole in the tunnel is too far back. So, I have to decide whether to cut a larger hole in the tunnel sheet metal and do everything necessary with the interior attachments, or find an old-style transmission. I'm interested in hearing your thoughts. Should I try to find an early…

http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/classic11k/12-3901 As soon as it warms up I'm diving into maintenance, tune-up, etc, and prep for a cross-country drive in the Z (just like old times.) If I'm changing plug wires I might as well dress it up a bit, right? The Taylor sheathed wires seem made for my engine bay, shown below, anyone buy them and wish they hadn't? I've looked around Taylor's website but can't find any instructions online, and was wondering where the ground connections are made...thanks.

After taking apart perhaps more than 3 dozen diffs (R180 and 200s), I found this plate. Has anyone else seen one of and if so has anyone found one in an R200. I assume it acts to keep gear oil from directly exiting the breather tube as a liquid (as opposed to a vapor). Since the one I found has a rust hole, I am having a sheet of them made up via water jetting.

I'll post pics soon, but this is a dirty, untested head that I bought years ago, presented to me as good. I can go clean it and do the big valve job, etc, but I'd rather just sell it. 150.00 takes it. Thanks Curtis

So I'm working on an N42/N42 L28 rebuild. I've read several places you should always put pistons back in the same cylinder they came from. I can understand that you want to keep the complete rod together, but I can't figure out why you need to put the piston back in the same cylinder if you hone the cylinder and replace the rings. Any engine gurus out there who can explain if and why it is necessary to put the piston back in the same cylinder even when you have the cylinder honed and use new rings? Thanks.

It might be a little difficult to see it but I have a slight fluctuation in the vacuum gauge. I remember my old truck had this but a little worse and I had to replace the valve. The counter weight in the AFM bounces too. Do I need to be concerned? https://youtu.be/woHqz7JVLQ0

Hi all. I bought a L28 motor from the late great John Williams, and I am getting ready to install it, but I decided to do all those upgrades that I would want to do later, while it is still on the stand. I bought a ZX distributor yesterday, but when I went to install it, I didn't see any way to secure it to the front cover. Are all front covers the same on the L-series? I will take pics tonight and add them, but I had a dead moment at work to get the ball rolling. I'd rather sound like an idiot and get the problem solved than keep my pride and never find the answer. So I'm swapping some flat top pistons from a 280ZX F54 block into my N42/N42 engine. I acquired them as part of a parts car I bought. Last night I discovered one of them has a cracked skirt so now I'm looking to get 1 or 2 more pistons. So anybody have some flat top L28 pistons around? Maybe somebody who has a stroker project? Thanks.

I recently installed a 2 row Champion radiator on my 71 240Z. I also installed twin electric radiator fans. The radiator is a great product. The electric fans not so much. Poor cooling in stop and go traffic, and they draw lots of amps. I run a 160 thermostat which keeps the temp fine when moving, but for extended stops or idling, the temp gauge climbs more than I feel comfortable with. I think the stock fan with a correctly functioning clutch and a SHROUD, is the way to go. So, has anyone installed the MSA aftermarket shroud to the Champion radiator without having to modify anything? I still have my original metal fan, but I tossed my old radiator and have no way to comp…

My 71 240Z (L24engine) runs 75 lbs. of oil pressure at 3000 rpm. It's not a defective gauge. What can cause high oil pressure in a Z motor? The engine has 2000 miles on it and runs perfect.
