my oil pressure releif valve is half there--the outer part only--and so far impossible to extract. im thinking of running without it. my question is---is it for smog only????i understand crankcase pressure, but is it that critical for a daily driver. thanks all. steve:ermm:

So far I see that people seem to do one of two things: 1. Grind out the peened part of the nut and then reuse the nut (I don't get how this works because if you removed the peened part, what's preventing the bolt from twisting?) 2. Buy some 280ZX nuts with a "ripple" in the threads. Not sure how that works because I imagine it'd deform the stud. Anyway, anything I'm missing here? Are those my only choices? Thanks!

My 240z is running a 1982 280zx drive line and the U joints need replacing on the driveshaft. The Nissan dealer tells me that the propeller shaft is one piece so I can't just buy the U joints, although I see shims holding them in, but neither can I buy the whole shaft anymore, discontinued. Do I have to have an an old 240Z shaft reworked to fit(those U joints are still available) or should I just have a new shaft built? Thanks, Chris

Hi friends! I bought the performance camshaft kit with cam lift .480 and duration 274. My questions now are: What are your experiances (if you have installed the kit) and - in special - how did you go on with the valve springs. My mechanic thinks that the valve springs are too strong (130 kp) for that camshaft compared to the 80 kp of the stock springs in my ' 72 240 Z , that might be too weak for that still quite moderate cam. Thanks for your support Rolf

Hi! I have a 240z with a 5 speed transmission swap. The transmission has new oil in it and works fine in all gears including reverse, but when I am pulling it out of 5th gear I have to be really careful not to pull the stick too far straight backwards to prevent it from grinding on the reverse gear:rolleyes: It seems like there is a blocking that is missing or something? Any advice? Regards, Tomzern

Higuys, The cover for my distributor (it's a 1978 L28E, and the junction is on the left side near the radiator support) has come off at the hinge point, and I have not thought of a good way to re-attach it, yet. FYI, the cover is plastic, and has a clamshell design, and contains two studs where the distributor harness connects to the engine bay harness. After an engine repair, the top cover fell off. So far I thought of using strips of rubber, Velcro, and aluminum from a soda can, using GOOP to attach it to the bottom shell. Any ideas? eBay has no auctions for the correct part, so replacing it is not appropriate.

Hello good people, I swapped out my transmission in '78 Z.... a first for me...almost proud of myself...however! I forgot to replace the pilot bushing. I have what I believe is an input shaft bearing noise...it may be going out unless it could be the pilot bushings fault? (previous transmission did not make any noise) in neutral at idle I hear the "bad" bearing sound.....push the clutch pedal in and the whirring "dry-very dry" bearing sound dissapears.... release clutch pedal and sound comes back.... I believe I can hear it in first and second gear as well? cant hear it anymore in third. I've watched some u-tube videos and some various clips indicate that I do ha…

My clutch started to behave oddly after i dynoed my Z. It runs well when all the components are cold, but after 10 minutes drive, shifting becomes embarrasing. It shifts okay but it screams like a pig when changin gears. And its LOUD. I have 1 year old clutch and release bearing, could the bearing have gone bad or what?

I am trying to start up my motor for the first time, Should I see any oil pressure while cranking the motor over? I have good oil flow when priming the oil pump out all of the cam oiler bar. Just don't seem to have any pressure on the gauge even when I install a gauge right in the sender port while cranking.
