Hey Guys, I just can't get a break. There must be a zombie in this garage that does not want this car to see the street. I will not give up. Last week we decided to put some gas in the tank and fired it up and back it out of the garage. The gear went in but when I lifted the clutch, the car failed to move. It is the fork/pin in the tranny that failed to engage. Also there was no oil in the tranny. I wanted to hurt my mechanic so bad. We spent about four days taking the trannny out. Last night finally got the tranny back in place. Mech had forgotten to install the strap that goes over the diff before but reminded him that it must be install. We had some problem because the…

My heater valve on my 71 was so bad that I plugged each of the 2 hoses that go through the fire wall (I don't need heat in Virginia). My question is..... Is blocking them off OK or should I connect the two with a tube so the water continues through the hoses and back into the engine? Is it better one way or the other as far as engine cooling is concerned?

I'm is the beginning stages of building a new L28 engine for my Z-car project. I've decided to do the "0.080" mod (as described by http://datsunzgarage.com/p79/) to raise the compression to 10:1. I'm using a P90 head shaved 0.075" (to reduce combustion chamber volume and raise compression) on the bottom and 0.005" on the top (to ensure the cam tower mounting faces are all flat). After searching in vain for a suitable means of shiming the cam towers, I decided to make my own. I searched for and found aluminum sheet stock that is 0.080" thick. My biggest concern was the tolerance of the thickness of the plate. I found plate that is +/-0.0015". It is 7075 T6 aerospace …

So I'm getting my summer projects picked and figured, and the l24 is up there at the top of the list. I have found that there is a bit of oil consumption, and some blue smoke on hard acceleration. I'm betting its rings, so I figure i'll get to working on the engine itself if its going to be apart. I have thought of punching it 20 over, and doing the whole ring, piston, timing, oil pump, bearings, the likes job. I also figure i'll get the head cleaned up, and replace the valve stem seals. I am more or less looking to see what others have done with their own L24. I have pondered a l28, but worry about adaptation of parts. My carbs are from ztherapy, have new ceramic head…

These two blokes that have a car mod TV show in AUS tested the eBay electric "superchargers" and discovered how to effectively add twin boost to your car that actually increases power! So you can forget about expensive intercoolers and blow-off valves...

Not sure what to think about this stuff. I put it in the radiator yesterday and ran the engine for 20 minutes like it says. After the engine cooled down I popped the rad cap and looked inside. I expected to see and even mix between the coolant and the additive but what I saw was like "globs" of the additive floating by. The first thing I thought was Is it possible that some of these "globs" are going to plug a passage or am I just being paranoid? Anyone else experience this? Just something else for me to worry about with this car.

I have noticed that there are little spots across the underside of the hood in the area just above the cooling fan. I am assuming the spots are from water or anything that gets pulled through the radiator on the roads or highways. These spots don't come off with a little water or rubbing, like a water spot on the windscreen. I was thinking that if you extended the top so it covered the fan blades, then the stuff would not be thrown at the underside of the hood, and it would look as nice as the rest does. So is there a recommended way to either replace the fan shroud with some that cover the blades, or is there a good way to extend it? I thought of using some small pop…

Where the tranny mount mounts to the passenger side tunnel- where the bolt goes up through the pyramid shaped boxed in area attached to the tunnel, the nut that the bolt attaches to, which is inside the boxed in area, is stripped. Any ideas how to fix it, without welding and alot of cutting. Since my interior is out, do you think i could drill or cut a hole from the interior of car on the tunnel where the boxed in area is? It wouldn't be hard to measure from under the car, to get a good idea where to cut or drill. After i get a hole in the tunnel from the interior of the car, i can put a new nut in so the bolt has something to attach to. Do you think that would work? Than…

Hello...I have had my 1972 Z for 29 years and have always wanted a 5 speed trans. It now has a 4 speed. I have a friend that has a 5 speed from a 1982 280ZX . He says it will fit right in my Z but I'm not so sure. Does anyone know if it will bolt in ? I can also get the drive shaft if needed. Thanks in advance... Dave

I rolled down to the z-bash in Orange a couple of weeks ago, when I got back home I found this: looks like I'm leaking oil from the front of the block somewhere - any suggestions? Thanks, Ken
