Hi all, I have not been to this site for a while. I just acquired a nice 74 Z, this is my 3rd Z, and it doesn't have A/C. I live in Florida and A/C is almost mandatory.....OK for me it is mandatory. Anyone who has added A/C to their Z, a Z that never had A/C I would very much appreciate any and all info you could give me. Where you got your A/C parts, problems you had etc. , any and all info would be a great help. My e-mail is ( frogdog@cfl.rr.com ), you could send the info here if you prefer not to clog up the Z discussions , my phone number is 321-254-3681 if you would prefer to talk. Thanks, Pete

I have a '75 280Z that has the ARA dealer installed AC. The car was dis-assembled when I got it and I am trying to put it back together. I have all the major components but am missing the AC control switch and the thermal switch. Any power switch should work but the therrmal switch for cycling the compressor may be another matter. Does anyone know where I can find this switch and how does it install in the evaporator box? Is this an item that can be found at any AC shop or is it specifically calibrated to the 280Z evaporator? Any help would be appreciated! Brad

Has anyone else experienced the issue with the A-R-A Air conditioning system with the York Compressor where the compressor itself touches lower radiator hose (part where it exits the engine) and also the pulley appears dangerously close to where it connects to the lower radiator? I have new cloth braided hoses that I do not want to mess up. I have heard of zip tying the hose out of the way but that should not be the answer as It wouldn't have been done that way 41 years ago. If others have experienced this what was done to rectify it? I am re-installing this vintage system so removing it is not an option.

My AC (blower fan) has taken to cutting in and out. Is there a controller / circuit board "between" the fan speed control knob and the blower fan itself that gives it the variable speed? Is it prone to failure? The compressor SEEMS to keep operating as air coming out of the vents, even when the blower isn't spinning, is still chilled.

I know that most of you will think Im crazy but I want to add ac to my z. It is mostly stock except for headers and exhaust, along with brake and susp upgrades. When I had my z in the mid 70s the first thing I did was take off the ac. At the time I was living in SoCal and it wasnt missed. Now years later I live in south Georgia and last year bought this 71 z . It is so hot and humid a cant drive/enjoy the car during the hot summer. I have been unable to find an aftermarket or orig kit to fit my car. Motorsports had one in the past but is currently unavailable. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi all, Sorry to be such a stranger. Life gets in the way, I guess. Mostly I'm away from my computer, which makes me more productive, but less communicative. Anyway, I've been dealing with the 134a A/C on my Saturn (yes, I know, not a Z) and have some further ideas that might help people with their systems. First, I have to compare the performance of my '78 Z with exactly 2 pounds of R12 (per specifications), vs. my Saturn with an unknown quantity of R134a, which I just topped off. The Z blows ice cold , while the Saturn is pleasantly cool. I think the difference is that the charge on the Z is exact, while the charge on the Saturn is approximate. Although I can ge…

Hello! It is summer, as we know best down here in Tucson. Temperature has already exceeded 110 degrees and AC becomes pretty important to most people. My '77 280Z appears to have come with a stock/dealer installed AC system. All the R-12 was long gone when I bought the vehicle, but the system appears to be very intact still. The problem with R-12 is it's availability and price, not to mention environmental effects. I've recently realized how easy and inexpensive it is to convert an R-12 to an r134a system (in fact cheaper than an R-12 charge-up in many cases). Since my dashboard is out of my Z, as well as everything in the engine bay, I decided I have the perfect opportun…

I am sorry, I know I am adding yet another A/C thread. I did a search on the topic, but I need additional advice. I would like to add A/C to my 73 240Z. I am leaning more towards the "factory" kit because it is made for the car. Courtesey nissan no longer has the factory kits available. Has anyone had any experience with the classic or vintage air kits. I know I need to go with a modern Sanden type compressor. I have also read that the Honda blower motor is a good upgrade for increased air flow. Does anyone have any thoughts or guidence?

I made and installed my A/C hoses on Friday. To crimp the hose fittings, I used a Mastercool 71550 Manual hose crimper and it worked like a charm. At $200, it’s expensive as a “one-time use toolâ€, but I was quoted about $100 to have a shop crimp the hoses. Given I’m going to have to make new hoses for my neighbor’s 240Z, I decided to buy the tool. Might sell it on Craig’s list when I’m done with it, or maybe I’ll just keep it… I still need to install the hose restraints and wiring in the engine bay this week, but that should only take a couple hours. Then it’s off to a local mechanic to get the system evacuated and charged. It’s going …

I've got a 72 Z that came with just about every dealer option they offered back then, including an a/c system from Frigiking. I almost have the complete original system on the car, including all the under dash plumbing, switches, dryer, etc. However, I am missing the compressor, compressor mounting bracket, and the condenser is sitting in the back of the car. My question is what should I do to get the a/c working on the car? should I just get a compressor and condenser? Can a condenser be cleaned and reused? Or should I junk the system and get a new kit? I know that the a/c discussion for these cars have been talked about a ton, I just thought my situation was a bit diffe…
