S30 Fairlady

Sold in Japan as the Nissan Fairlady Z

  1. Started by scotta,

I have just purchased my first Z. - S30-100698. I think it is a 1973 model however but would welcome some guidance. JDM version, 5 speed, 2.0l. Believed to have come from Japan by an ex-serviceman.

Found on eBay recently, and curious if this is how all Jdm cars come from factory? With captured nuts for optional belly pan, that runs under the engine compartment?

  5. Started by scotta,

I’m looking for some dimensions of the long arm original JDM fender mirror. Planning to buy a cheap set (https://zcardepot.com/mirror-bullet-style-black-240z-260z-280z-70-78.html?gclid=CjwKCAjw2dvWBRBvEiwADllhn0PO9n9E9yaRQdEEbrvl-4P9_Ckc5zkTip-ZyPXSaW-JEToJ8ncwhxoCuZkQAvD_BwE) and rebuild with longer arms. I will model the parts in fusion 360 then 3d print the arm sections. Also will look to add a spring mechanism at the base. looking for height A, offset B and side offset angle C.

  6. I had every intention of restoring these but we're selling our river house and moving to the ocean, and I'm losing 90% of my parking areas. This is a true Japanese Fairlady Z, vin# S30-01036. VERY early car! The history I have is it was purchased originally by a GI in Japan, then a few years later he had Nissan or the dealer convert over to Left Hand Drive before shipping back to the states. The original 2 liter engine, tranny, hood and headlight covers are out of the car and in storage (meaning I don't have possession of them yet) but I should be getting them over the next few months. No guarantees though. Long story, but the older man I got the car from was having…

  7. Started by ZZZ-077,

Hi All, I'm new here. I bought a GS31 fairlady z 2+2. Manufacture 1977. I need some info about the engine. It's an L20, 1998cc, 130PS/6000rpm, 2605mm. Fuel injection. On the block written there is E30. What type of engine is it? Is just an L20? Or an L20e? Any info about upgrades? I'm not expecting a 300bhp car. But just enough to have some fun.

  8. Started by scotta,

When I got my 1973 fairlady z it came with an assortment of badges, none mounted. I believe the red fairlady z badge and the two red z pillar badges are originals. I have only ever seen the white versions of these, any special significance of the red ones?

Looking into finishing my 1970 Z-L restoration. The upholstery in the car was not original (instead it was modified from a 240Z), so I'm starting the process of re-doing it to something more in-line with what it would have left the factory with. One detail which we are not sure of is the rocker panel covering, from below the kick-plate, under the door opening, and towards the rear. In several re-upholstered s30s, we've seen this panel be done using carpet instead of vinyl. Is carpeting the original material for this area?

  10. Started by 70 Fairlady Z,

I saw my first Nissan Fairlady 280Z during my first duty station with the navy in Angeles City, Philippines from 1985-1986. Following the Philippines, I spent two years in Misawa, Japan from 1987-1989, which is when I purchased my first car ever a 1979 Nissan Bluebird 4 door sedan. I always liked the Datsun 280ZX, but did not know when I would get one. When I was about a year from moving from Japan to London, England my 1980 Fairlady Z came up for sale. I just had to have her, so off to the bank I went to secure the funds to purchase her. I did not know the first thing about differences between Fairlady Zs and Fairlady 280Zs. I bought her thinking it had an L28 engi…

Noticed this 46-11-9….hidden under the ashtray door slide. Thinking it may refer to a date of November 9, 1971? Or would it be September 9,1971 Trying to hammer down date of production of my hs30-10324 car if it is possible to get down to a month, or day of production.
