I'm going to try and take pictures of this paper weight as I make it lighter. Bought it from a guy that works at a scrapyard. $20 dollar scrap price but an old friend that works there knew what a Datsun 280ZX was and gave him $25. Called me and now it's my toy for the next month or so. With you guys asking about it I'll get it done. Pictures so far.

Decided to post up my restoration of HLS30-12070 that began earlier this year. I'm a long-time member of this group, but unfortunately lost my previous login information. Another 240Z followed me home and I couldn't say no to it! It's a May 1970 car that was first sold by Datsun of Hawaii in July 1970, fitted with air conditioning. It then went to the mainland in the early 1980s and underwent an engine transplant. The original engine, 07174, was discarded and a 1965 Ford 289 fitted with an automatic transmission. Hydraulic power steering was also adapted and fitted. Non standard seats and tan trim also found their way into the car. Next stop was Texas where it was purchased by the last owner in 1990. He then brought it with him to Washington State and undertook a multi year rebuild. Mounted on a rotisserie he did a nut and bolt …

Just acquired HLS30-960 restoration already in progress. The car has been sitting for about 10 years after paint and body and is really nice shape. All the original parts are with the car. Original 904 white was applied, and due to many extra interior parts that came with the project, it was either blue or black interior. My plan it to put the blue interior in it. Dash has two small cracks that will have to be dealt with.

It's going to be a while before I can really get going on this one but I can work on all the stuff in the boxes in between other stuff. She arrived this morning just after a big dump of snow, my plow guy was late so had to shovel a path to the storage tent. the last pic is showing how low some PO cut the springs, the fender lip is digging into the tire and the car is stripped of all weight.

Hi all. This is my 240z, its a 10/1970. Spent its life in Arizona till November 2011, now its in sunny Lincoln, England. Due to the 'wetter' weather we have here I intend to strip it down and sort out any rust/body issues before giving the whole car a refresh. A great guy in the UK told me about this site, he just happens to have more than a few lovely z's too. This is the car when it arrived.. Its one of the later series one car, an early 12,000 chassis number. So far i've been stripping it down to find any of the dreaded brown stuff.... When scraping the factory sound proofing off i've found a few small holes so i'm very pleased, also a bad dogl…

I have been encouraged to start a build thread about my restoration of HLS30U-00026 so here goes. I started many, many years ago, as most of you know, and got sidelined during the depression in 2008 which lasted for me until 2014 or so. Although I managed to carry on with my involvement in the Z community over the past decade, the cars have been pretty much sitting in storage and very little work has been done. Then about a year ago, I got back into it and started sorting through my stuff, creating little projects and slowly stepping back into the restoration. A month ago, I talked to the guy who is doing all the paint and body work for Steve / Twin Cam Sportscars…

Hi all, David in Jacksonville, FL. I am starting a new thread here in build threads. I have my 73 on a rotisserie and just received my goodies from Zedd Findings, pans, front rails and supports. I have a new MIG welder in hand and I'm about to get serious with cutting and welding (which I'm really not a welder) other than stick welding several years ago, so I will be doing a lot of practicing first. After getting more detailed inspecting trouble areas, I noticed that the sills on both sides where the vertical pieces (where interior trim is attached to) are sandwiched together and spot welded are rusty, so I was thinking I should probably order the Klassic Fab sills a…

For starters, apologies for creating a new thread about the same build, but I wanted to make this into a more coherent build thread as my previous one started off a little messy with me unclear of my goals and how I would achieve them. Anyway, this thread is to document the build of my 1978 Datsun 280z. It was/is pretty rough, so the goal here is not originality, but to restomod this into a fun, good looking, capable weekend car. Some info on the car: Original L28 motor. 5-speed manual transmission. It is a federal/non-California car (Originally from Nevada). Clean title. Only 2 owners from new before me. Odometer shows 37,xxx miles. Has more than likely ro…

Well i have bought myself quite the project. Should be fun though. I have picked up an early sunshine yellow 1971 240z HLS30-07119. It has seen better days. Someone partially started some rust repair and failed miserably. I will get some better pictures once i move it to the shop. The Red 73 came with it. I have the supposed number matching engine/tyranny plus two l28 engines and transmission. Current goal to to build a frame jig for the car. This way i can go about cutting up most of the car and i don't have to worry. Long term I would like to build my stylized version of a 432r but, that can always change. Also, what do you think about the car bei…

Hello, I am a first time car builder, and I decided to get right into it with an RB25DET swapped 77 280z. I've been working on it for a little over a year and a half now, and although it still needs some work, it runs and drives now 🙂 . There's lots more pictures and videos on the cars instagram @louis_280z, and please don't hesitate to ask questions about how I completed this swap! There's lots of problems that you may not even be thinking of before getting into this job that you'll run into, and I'm more than happy to share my solutions!
