Hello All: My father and I have own several Z's over the years, but we've had this 77 280Z for quite a while now. I've collecting some parts to lately to do a "intake clean up" project. I found a non-egr intake manifold and purchased a PALNET fuel rail. New injectors, o-rings, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, pvc valve, fuel hose and vacuum hose. We just completed all of the work and at initial start up the car was running fine. Fuel Pressure was a little low but seemed to idle fine and rev smooth. We took the car for a fine and about 2 miles down the road things went way down hill. Any throttle caused the power to break up horribly. Car would idle ok (fuel pressure …

I have posted a few times in the past about this issue and have read some other posts but I have gotten myself a little confused on where to go first. I will do the best I can describing the problem/issue or opportunity. Remember I am not a mechanic but tyring to learn. I drove the car really for the first time in almost a year after dropping my gas tank, getting out rust, coating and reinstalling. The Fuel Filter was also replaced. Here we go........... Drove car about 50 miles, some at 30mph, some at 80 mph, and some in stop and go traffic. Car starts up fine, first try no issues. Idles at about 900-1000 rpms. Car ran ok for the majority of the trip. I feel it was…

I'm original owner of '76 280z and my mechanic found some rust in the bottom of gas tank (outside tank rust-free). He's going to restore the inside with POR15 fuel tank repair kit. Would you Z owners recommend a fuel stabilizer/preservative and if so, which brand is the best?? Z is in Minnesota and will be stored in the winter months. Plan to drive only when roads are snow/salt free at that time. Recommendations much appreciated. :stupid: Deb

While working on the Z over the weekend I took a movie of my fuel pressure gauge for fun and enjoyment (and as a record of what its behavior is when the motor is running well). Though you all might be interested:

I recently posted in my reliability update the my brake booster was leaking. Once it gets bad, its easy to diagnose: A sucking sound in the cabin when brakes are applied along with hard braking and engine surge during braking. Long story short: All of this goes away once the brake booster is replaced and everything is properly re-attached. Early Warning Signs What I didn't realize is that my Z was telling me for a few weeks that the brake booster was going bad. It did this with an occasional engine surge at idle (it would only go down to maybe 1500 rpm's at a stop light). When this happened though, I would give the throttle a quick kick and it would get back to norm…

Hi All, I have been missing from these parts for a little while. Too much going on but my 1976 280Z has been my daily driver until this week (brake booster see below). Not much to report except that it starts every time and has (generally) been running great. Highligths: 1. About a month ago I took my buddy to see Pat Benetar at the Casino Ballroom in Hampton Beach, NH. A 130 mile round trip drive. I warned him that it was a much bigger drive than had been attempted before in the Z but he insisted that we take it. I loaded up with a complete tool kit (based on recommendations from here). Had the front wheels balanced. Doused all the wires with WD40 (thunderstorms…

I recently bought a set of 6 remanufactured FJ3 fuel injectors for my 76 280z. My only question is do i have to buy the o-ring kit and holders and if so are they specific to this injector or do i buy the one that is listed for 280z. Ive been doing some searching and seem to be coming up on blank. thanks

Car is a 76 - 280 totally stock and was running great, no problems at all. I have a car show next week to go to and wanted to clean the car up a bit, so I got it home and worked on it (cleaning up) and add two 5 gallon cans of gas that I have had for about 3 mo. to the gas in the car , made almost a full tank. Took the neighbor for a quick trip around the park and dropped him off and want to take the car back to the garage I keep it in. This is when every thing when crazy. The car started to juke and buck as I accelerated until it just would quit running. It would restart and run for about a minute and do the same thing. I finally got out of the car in a parking lot …

Hello guys I resently bought a "new" 77' 280z. I have a problem with it though, when i start it up cold it just dies. When i press the accellerator it revs fine, but it dies when i let go. When the car gets warom it work about perfect, it "jumps a little up and down every now and then. Anyone have any idea what this could be? Also it gets a little hot, i'd say 10 % over the middle of the "temp-meter" Should i be conserned about that? -B

Hi - The 78 280z has been running well most of the time since my last go round with the salt bridge on the TPS and new injectors. However I (and my son) have had intermittent stalling issues when on the road. Both times in the last month, we were able to "rap" on the ECU box with our knuckles and get the car to restart for the ride home. Once it happened after about 10 miles away from home, and once less than a mile. Both from cold starts. We have reflowed the pins from the 35 pin connector to the ECU board, but this seems to be a vibration issue. Some times I can change the way the car runs in the drive way by "rapping" the ECU. Unless I can find something obviou…
