I've got a '78 280Z that starts and runs perfect until the temp come up to normal then it stalls or hesitates when coming off a stop. Once I get it up to speed (2000 RPM or better) it seems to run OK. Any ideas??

I had the "hot start" problem return this fall. The fuel pressure also dissipates over a few hours after shut-off. The PO removed the stock fuel rail "trombone" pipes and replaced them with a single billet rail. There is a Summit Racing pressure guage on the rail. With engine started and running, there is approx. 29-30 psi. Without vacuum to the FPR- approx 36 psi. I knew that the loss of fuel pressure, over time, can be (a) leaking: - check valve in the fuel pump - cold start valve - FPR - injectors The pump is fairly new, so I added a Parker check valve down stream, between filter outlet and rail inlet. No change. The CSV was original, so I replaced it.…

Ok, so in my "How weird is this" post Im trying to understand why my fuel pump is energized with the key in the "on" and "start" position. It's a 5/77 280. The fuel pump shut off is different in the 8/77-78 models. I don't have much time to spend on the Z these days so what little free time I have is dedicated to finding this problem. When I test connectors 39 and 36 (AFM still hooked to 7 pin connector) for the fuel cut off I get 7.19ohms with contacts open and closed. I should mention that I am connecting my ohm meter to the 39 and 36 connectors inside the AFM. Just behind the black cover. I should get no reading when the contacts are broken. I even physically made and …

I have spent a lot of time researching this issue both on this site and my car. I have a 5/77 280Z. It is running really good. Fuel pressure is correct (just leaks down over several hrs) I can live with that for now. I just prime the pump in the morning (when I do drive it) before starting it. I checked engine vacuum and it's at 19. The issue is after priming fuel lines for about 5 seconds (i have a pressure gauge in line) it doesn't start right away like it used to. It cranks probably 5-7 times and then fires. The idle is around 700 rpm. I have to throttle it around 1300 rpms for a couple of minutes before it will hold there until warmed up. After that it idles at 800. …

So I opened up my afm on my 5/77 280z because my fuel pump (I thought) is running when I put the key to the "on" position thinking I was going to have to adjust the arm that breaks the contact point for the fuel pump. I know the pump is usually only powered in the "start" position. To my amazement the contacts were not making contact! So I made them make contact and I heard something else come on. I can't tell if it's the fuel pump, something else is running at the same time. I looked around in the car to see if any other accessory's were running but couldn't see anything. Now for the weird thing, my fuel pressure gauge builds pressure with the key in the "on" position! I…

Hey Guys, When I got my 78 280, as is common the battery was left in and rotted everything below including the fuel lines. I got a new set of steel lines but can seem to figure out how the run from the turn up to engine compartment to the front get secured to the frame. Anyone have a pic?

I have a 77 280Z and am trouble shooting the cold start system. I have been reading post's regarding cold start issues and think I have stumbled on something here. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the fuel pump supposed to only come on in the "start" position? If I turn my key to the "on" position my fuel pump runs as well as the start position. And if this is the case then I need to spend time looking at my AFM correct? I know what tests to run from looking at my FSM I just need some reassurance that I'm heading in the right direction. Thanks for your help. Bob

is there anything wrong with hooking direct power up to my fuel pump and running it off a toggle switch? basically i toggle it on when i start the car, and turn it off when i turn the car off. I plan to also hook up a light to it to signal that it's on so I never forget. this fix is only so I can drive to get parts while I figure out my electrical issue.

I am new to the forum and have read tons of great information. But before I start checking everything I thought I would run my problem by a few of you folks first. My 1977 280z runs strong and accelerates as it should, however when I try to accelerate quickly the car sometimes slightly back fires and always stumbles then as the rpm's climb its smooth. If i give it gas say 1200 to 1500 rpm's and ride the clutch out....no back fire and very little stumble. Anyone experience this before?

Hello I am just trying to finally catch-up on my 76 280z and trying to find that infamous fuel-afm problem, in the process I checked the fuel pump , do you think the bending in the fuel line (picture) would affect the flow in the whole fuel process?
