quick question, did a search but couldn't find an answer(first time the data wasn't here...) As I was reinstalling my intake manifold and fuel rail I noticed a lot of my fuel injector connections were broken. I just received all new connections from motorsport, and my sunday project will involve replacing them one at a time. The new plugs have two white wires, does it matter how i connect these to the two wires in my FI harness? (positive/negative?) Thanks, I'd rather ask a question and sound stupid than not, and watch my car burn or something...

Hey guys I have a bit of a question that I'm wondering if you guys can help me with. For what I understand the fuel injection system on my 76' 280z is basically a Bosch L Jetronic system that was bought from Germany in the 70's. That being said a lot of the parts on the Z look "similar" to the parts that are on many BMW's from that era. With that in mind I was wondering if any parts are actually interchangeable between the cars. (BMW and Z's). This is a purely hypothetical question and I'm only asking it as I'm curious. Thanks Jan

I'm thinking of installing a Pallnet custom fuel rail. I was wondering if I could remove the entire Cold Start Valve all together. I live in Southern California and i rarely ever start my car in weather lower than 60 degreees. Would just like some input here. thanks

This is a general question is for all of us with fuel-injected Z's. My reason for asking is the hope that it will help save time, effort and money on fuel-related issues, especially for cars that have been sitting for a long time. I apologize if this has already been adressed elsewhere. After reading through various fuel system-related posts I did not find this exact issue so here goes. I have heard from many sources that the quality of rebuilt and aftermarket injectors for the 280Z, 280ZX and 300ZX series cars is erratic. So my question is this: Is there any way to test injectors BEFORE installing them? If so, it would be much easier and efficient to return any bad u…

Here's my problem: I replaced all of my rubber fuel injection hose under the hood from the fuel inlet pipe to the fuel return pipe. I started the engine and backed it out of the garage leaving a large trail of gasoline (to find my way back into the garage.) I used 5/16" GoodYear SAE J30R9 fuel injection hose and Ideal 52F15V fuel injector hose clamps for 5/16" hose. All of the leaking seemed to be located at the fuel rail/injectors as the heat shield above the exhaust header was soaked. I had turned off the engine before opening the hood so it's kinda hard to pinpoint exactly where the leak was - everything on the driver's side of the engine was wet. Do I have the wro…

I have 1978 coupe and I have always been interested in possibly converting from a AFM to Mass Air Flow. Has anyone done it? How did it work out. Thanks.

So my car (1975 280Z) is a California car, with presumably a CA ECU. It looks like the ECU may be flaky, so if I have to replace it, what are the +/- of going to the federal? 1. I live in a land of no inspection, so I'm not worried about that. 2. Are they plug and play interchangeable? 3. Is there any functional difference? 4. Would there be any maintenance benefits (i.e. not having to worry about CA only dodads)? Geof

I was just curious to see if any one knew if anyone makes a custom fuel rail for the F/I L28's. I hate the look of the tubes and connecter hoses. Am i way over my head here?

Fuel Check Valve 1 2 3

Hi all, The check valve on my fuel pump has been getting less and less reliable, and it's probably time to replace it. However, these little items are in very short supply, commanding a very high price. Question 1: Are there any aftermarket sources for this item? Question 2: Has anyone tried inserting a generic inline check valve, perhaps in the vicinity of the fuel filter? Did that work well? And if you did this, did you insert the valve before the filter (so that any debris from a failed valve would be caught by the filter) or after the filter (so that any pumped debris wouldn't compromise the functioning of the check valve)? Thanks! Sarah

I have a '75 280Z w/ L28 engine. I removed the unit from manifold. Attached a 12v source across connectors. There was no 'click' heard. Valve can be actuated manually aganist internal spring an seems to be moving freely. Is the a correct test other than the complicated one used by the FSM?

I bought a 78 280z last week and the owner claimed that the fuel injectors were leaking. So I replaced the injectors and fired up the engine. I noticed a change in power but the engine was still sputtering. Every so often it made a loud popping noise and spit out black stuff from the exhaust. So i thought perhaps it wasn't burning the fuel. I also examined all the spark plugs and found that they were all jet black with soot all over them. After that, the car wouldn't start again. So I gave up and started changing out the headlights. To my surprise the old ones didn't have a bulb. When i tried to turn on the headlights nothing happened. My question is this, based on all o…

I've owned my car (1975 280z) for about three years now and I was told by the previous owner that the fuel injectors had been replaced shortly before I bought it. Recently I smelled more than the usual amount of gasoline vapors, upon opening the hood I noticed that two of the hoses that connect the fuel rail together and one of the hoses that connect the injector to the fuel rail had all sprung leaks. I don't know if the hoses were standard fuel hose, just old or if the clamps were just bad. I can tell that the hoses had all been replaced at some time in the past because all of the clamps had been replaced with the sub-par screw-gear type clamps that cut into the hose.…
