I have been getting a periodic hesitation when under load for the past year or so. From time to time it will provoke a roadside stall. It is grossly inconsistant and once done, all symptoms disappear for several hundred miles. Since I removed her from storage I have had the problem severely on two occasions. Symptoms: sputtering over three grand that works it's way back down to idle speed - leaving me on the side of the road billowing dark smoke from the exhaust while missing like a son of a bitch. The smoke has a very strong smell of gas (according to the guy following me). She will konk out after a while and eventually starts and may even run fine. The manual places …

My car has 2 green fusible links by the battery going to the EFI system, is that correct? The specs on a green fusible link is 40A ( or 50A, depending on the source) but I don't really think you'd need all that current (80 or 100A) to run 6 injectors, and the FSM only shows one fusible link. The plastic holders by the battery have the two green fusible links in them, and they neatly snap into holders on the relay bracket too, so it "looks" like it's correct. Or did the PO patch this in in from another car an attempt to make things work? I can get a photo, if you want one. thxZ

After reading a bunch of threads on here, which were helpful in eliminating some of my other questions, ive got a question. I have read the the 78's FI were different than the other years. Where is the FI relay and dropping resistors located at on a 78'? I have the entire dash off and i can trace the ecm harness all the way into the engine bay and they do not ever split off to a relay or anything. I looked right above the ecm where the FI bible says they are and also a 77' FSM (used to own a 77') said they were, but nothing. My problem is my injectors are not firing. I have fuel to the rail, and spark but the engine wont run. If i spray starting fluid in the intake it run…

Do you have to release the fuel pressure in order to replace the "O" ring seals for the fuel injectors? Thanks!

So im reduing my fuel system and need a few ideas and or sugestions...... first off its my 77 280z fairlady. its fuel injected and has a really bad rust problem.... t only has 55 thousand miles but its been sitting for a few years. it ran great and didnt seem to have many problems, besides it liked to over heat but thats a different story... my plan is to stroke the 2.8 to a 3.1 and want to change the injectors... well duhh..... right... but which ones should i go with, size wise that is.... i know that the injectors that are in it alone must be horrible considering rust, but if im going to change them i better change them to the ones that go with the 3.1L. im in t…

Was playing around with the Z a little while ago, and noticed a thin film of fuel oozing out of the top of the fuel pump. Popped off the four screws that hold the volute in place, and immediately noted the little black sealing ring had been crushed flat in a couple of places...more than enough clearance now to give me a small leak. Should I: 1) try and find a replacement seal? 2) place a small bead of sealer there in addition to the ring? 3) just break down and buy a new pump? The MSD 2225 looks like it would work.

Hello All: I have been "gifted" a 1975 280Z. At one time some of the more important wires were cut by the engine cooling fan. Could someone please direct me to where this wire should connect? Thanks in advance.

Hello! I have a 1975 280Z that has been in storage for more than 20 years. I have dipped the tank, cleaned the fuel pump, replaced the fuel filter, drained and refilled the oil and coolant, etc. The car will turn over and catch but then stalls out. I can do this maybe three times and then I will have to wait for 5 minutes before being able to do it again. After the third time of starting the car will just turn over. I have the bible and have gone through it step by step. I did not have another person to listen to the injectors though. I did all of the tests as if the injectors were clicking and as if they were not. All tests were good. I tested the AFM. All I found wrong…

I noticed that the boot between my AFM and throttle body didn't have a clamp on it and seemed to be wrapped in electrical tape. So me being curious decided that i would inspect it and use this as an opportunity to clean my AFM and throttle body a bit. Well the electrical tape was what was holding the boot together!!! I was like WTF!!! It was broken in half and put back together with electrical tape!!! Well since i didn't have a spare boot I just put it back together with more tape until I get a new one. But now i'm having some issues. 1. First time I started it up it was revving really high and would raise RPM when I would put the clutch in and would stay at 3000 …

Hello! Can anyone tell me where the fuel strainers are in a 280Z. Is there one in the fuel tank, the fuel pump inlet, or both. I'm not referring to a fuel filter, I mean the strainer between the tank and the pump. Thanks!
