I need to replace a couple hard lines on the high-pressure side of my fuel injection system, and I need to know how to put a bead on the end of the tube, so the rubber hose doesn't leak or slip off. I have a double-flare tool, but all that does is smash the end of the tube and theteeth scar up the sides. Is there a better way? Can some fix-it shops make the beads? thxZ

I have a 78 280z and wonder what the two screws (they have rubber plugs covering them) that are located on each side of the lower out take port (the side that is closest to the throttle chamber) are designed to do. When I cleaned the air flow meter, I noticed that the screws seem to adjust the size of an air bypass port channel. I have played with the adjustment and have likely adjusted the setting out of the factory setting. Can anyone tell me what the function of the two screws is and how I should adjust them to get them close to the factory setting? Is there a test to see if the air flow meter is functioning properly? Lastly, does my car have an air temperature sensor …

280Z Fuel Lines 1 2

Gentlemen I am replacing the rubber fuel lines on a stock 77 280Z, in an attempt to fix an apparent vapor lock condition. The fuel pump is operating and when cool pumps quite well. I have several questions. These are: 1. Is regular fuel line (not for FI) appropriate for the supply line between the fuel tank and the fuel pump? 2. Is there a simple way to check for proper operation of the fuel damper? If it is not operating properly, how would its failure affect the operation of the vehicle? 3. Is there a simple way to check for the proper operation of the fuel pressure regulator (on the fuel rail)? If is not operating properly, how would its failure affect the operation of…

I am looking to upgrade my stock injectors on my 1982 280zxt. I believe the stock ones are 259cc, which I have been told are only good for up to 230 crank hp. SO are there any injectors from other cars that will directly, or with minimal modification, fit into the stock 280zxt fuel rail/intake manifold? I may have the supplies to make a custom fuel rail if need be, they look pretty simple to fab.

Should fuel flow from my gas tank if the fuel line (inlet and outlet) is removed from the tank. I think my tank is stopped up but I'm not sure. The car appears to not be getting fuel. Stupid question but I'm trying to cover all my bases before I sink money into this project. Any suggestions on getting a tank unclogged?

I am planing an FI L28 and almost settle for the SU TBI. It's a f54+p90 combo milled 1 mm + rally cam. 280ZX EI. 6/2/1 exhaust. I figure if this combo work well with Ztherapy SU it should perform even better on SU TBI. Yet I also have a spare canon style manifold with 3 dirty Dellortos 45 that I would not trust to use as carb again. I also have a spare 280ZX manifold. Do you think that welding the canon manifold on the zx base and using the Delortos without anything else but the butterfly and TPS would make a workable set-up, with MS of course. Or just drill the cannon for injectors???? A sleeper SU TBI is fun, a sleeper 3 Delortos TBI would be awesome

I just recently decided to start working on a 1972 240z that I acquired in a trade several years ago. It has two Weber two barrel carb setup that somebody before installed and did a rather poor job and would take too much time and effort into straightening out the mess (linkage butchered, air injection(?) tubes on manifold cut and crimped off, vacuum lines blocked off, etc) and since I'm not much into carbs, I was thinking of installing a fuel injection unit I found on an '81 280(?) that appears to be able to bolt up with little or no problems. This is the first 240 I've worked on and need info if this type of conversion is possible and what is needed. Also will be sel…

I just bought a 280z and am having fuel delivery problems. I can't find the spec for fuel pressure in my book and I don't know if that's the problem. I pour fuel in through the intake and it starts. but I don't know if everything is right. Is there a common problem that I might be overlooking? All help is appreciated.

Well, last time I was here I had a fuel problem and you all helped immensely! So here I am again, asking for your help again! My 1983 280zx is running very rough (when I can keep her running), and blowing black smoke in rebellion. I have replaced the old nasty fuel tank, the fuel pump. the fuel lines, the fuel filter, and the spark plugs. The mechanic has checked the air flow meter, the O2 sensor, and the fuel rail. The fuel pressure is right in the line (according to the mechanic). Today, the injectors are getting blown clean, but I really don't think that's the problem either. This car has us stumped! Any suggestions? Any input is appreciated. You guys rock! PS - just a…

Howdy all, Pardon the newb question, I promise I did search. I'm looking at trading a guy and getting a '78 280z 5 speed car. He says it needs a fuel pump to run. (whether his diagnosis is correct or not it a whole different issue...but it's a place to start). My question is...what's the typical setup for a stock fuel pump replacement? Is there a low priced aftermarket one that works well? I know going through factory replacement parts channels will cost a ton, typically. And I figure these cars are at the point where folks have pretty much figured out all the "works great, costs less" type upgrades or replacments. For instance...the "mustang 5.0 syle" aftermarket f…

I just stumbled across this and thought it would be worth posting. This isn't mine! I just know how many of us have gone through tank rust issues. The seller does not know what year it's from. It isn't from a '78 because my tank has the sending unit on the top and the inlet/outlets on the front. This tank has them on the back with the sending unit on the front. I can't recall what my '75, or '76 tanks looked like, but I don't remember any of them having the sender on the front like this. Anybody know what year tank this is? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/75-76-77-78-DATSUN-280-Z-NOS-FUEL-TANK-GAS-TANK_W0QQitemZ320168184719QQihZ011QQcategoryZ33556QQssPageNameZWDVWQQ…

This is the extent of the rust in my 77 tank. Can I just neutralize the rust or does this require that I have the tank boiled and coated? Thanks
