Greetings. I have a 1976 280z that I've been bring back from the dead. Last real issue is the engine, which cranks, gets spark but won't start. I've tested the system according to the shop manual and the FI bible, and everything is pretty much to spec, including the fuel pump working. However, when I reconnect the harness and crank it, it doesn't start. If use starter fluid it will fire. My thought is the ECM is history. Is there a way to test the unit? If it is shot, what abnout repair? Any guidance is appreciated.

The rubber connectors for MAF sensor are pretty well shot. The poor things have been silliconed so many times it's pathetic and all the used ones I've came across are so hard and brittle that they pretty well disintergate when I try to remove or install them. Does anyone know of a source for these?

Hi guys, two years ago when i purchased my ZX i replaced the fuel pump, and apparently it was overpressured so i rebuilt the old one and installed it back. The old one worked for a while but it’s broken again, and I had to fit the new one again and made a long road trip in this mountainous country, after two hours the smell of gas coming out from the pump area was too bad and the car started to failed until it shut down, I waited for a half hour and then the car started and it ran fine. This happened twice, I don´t know what to do, the fuel pump is 95 psi but the pressure on the fuel rail is 36 as it should be so the FPR is fine, maybe the fuel pump pushes too hard an…

Hey guys i'm new to this website and I have a 1978 280Z (Automatic). Anyways, I have a question. My Z is running very 'rich' the injectors are pushing to much fuel in, and the air to fuel mix is off so the black cloud its producing out of the exhaust is burnt gas. So when I press on the gas I get alot of smoke and not much acceleration. And sometimes it even stalls at stop signs and stop lights, its very embarrassing. So I go to this classic Z repairer and he says it needs a $500 chip that will fix the problem.... Do any of you guys know if it will?? I didnt even know a '78 Z had a chip since its 29 years old Have any of you guys ever had the same problem? And will t…

I just placed an order for a tps for my 280z because the original was tested and is not working correctly. I was wondering if would what exactly it does, I know that it revs the engine up to about 1500rpm on cold starts which it doesn't do now, but I was wondering if what else it does. Thanks for any info.

For those of you that like to read everything about the L-Jetronic Fuel Injection system: http://www.hiperformancestore.com/L-jetronic.htm This article gives some general stuf, some tips, trick & tweaks, and it even makes a reference to the 280zX & 280ZX. The only difference is that it uses an Alpha Romeo engine as the example. thx

I recently dropped a good running 1977 280z motor and trans. package into my 1978 280z and now have all 6 sparkplugs carbon fouling as soon as motor warms up. I have noticed the AFM has 2 less wires in connector on my '78. My '78 does not have the 2 green wires that go to fuel pump relay. I wired my fuel pump to igniton, so it is hot when key is on. What other differences are there between the '77 and '78 models fuel injection wise that would make the '77 motor run like crap, I have tried swapping computers, AFM's, throttle switches, and distributors to no avail.....also unplugged thermotine sw. air regulator, and water temp sw. and still have a ton of carbon coming …

This particular forum doen't seem to get used often so hopefully I get a few replys. I've begun collecting bits to run triple 40mm sloex side draught carbys on my 240z (same as webers). I love the look and the sound of the side draught carbys but I'd love a car I could go out, turn on and allow to idle and warm up without worying about fouling plugs and rough running and economy. I have some experience with solex carby's as I have another pair on my stanza race car. I had the idea of making fuel rail and injector setup that fitted inside one of those big long single air filters designed for triple webers. Either mount the injectors in holes drilled in the trumpets or on s…

I'm thinking about going EFI. I like the SUs and think they're great for performance but I'm a young-enough guy still and enjoy the precision of EFI. I also like to tinker with data and computers. I was wondering if any of you guys have converted to EFI and what challenges you may have faced along the way. Some goals of mine would be to: 1. keep costs down (2500 for a kit and 2500 for TEC-II ECU is a little much - is this thinking realistic?) 2. Convert the L24 now but plan to go L28 later (maybe stroker) 3. plan to use a custom made surge tank 4. plan to daily drive the car and track moderately on the weekends Can i put the kit together with all aftermarket stuff or is t…
