My car hesitates and dies after it warms up. Car will start without a problem, even if it’s been sittings for weeks and idles fine. As soon as the temperature gauge starts to move the idle gets rough. I can hear the fuel pump relay clicking along with the idle hesitating and then engine dies. If I let car cool down it will start and idles fine. I’ve taken all of the under hood & under dash connectors apart & cleaned them. I don’t think it’s the fuel pump because it shouldn’t be affected by engine heat. It could be a bad ground but why when it’s warm? Anyone experienced anything like this before? Any ideas on what to try next? Thanks Vince

Ugh......:disappoin Hopefully someone can give me some ideas on how to proceed. A couple of days ago I noticed that two of the fuel lines on the fuel rail on my 77 280z were leaking and I decided to change all of the hoses out.(PITA) I was able to remove the front and back fuel rails, change all of the hoses, and left the injectors in place. After all of this the car will now start but it stumbles and hesitates very badly whenever I try to hit the accelerator. I can here the injectors working per the FSM and have cleaned all of the connections. The only thing I can think of is that I may have had some garbage in the fuel rails that was stirred up and plugged the inje…

Hello all, I'm trying to install a 79 engine and EFI to my 73 240z. I'm using the "280z fuel injection book" as reference, and according to it I have all the parts needed, except for the EFI relay . One of my doubts is if there is and aftermarket replacement for that EFI relay? and if is the same relay for all zx models? Finally, does somebody know or have a diagram for ZX EFI..? The "280z fuel injection book" is very helpful, but for the info I've found it looks that ZX EFI works in a different way. Thanks.

I baught a front quarter cut for my 300ZX Z32, I used stuff from it and pulled out others, untill I found a carbon canister (or charcoal canister) not sure of the name.. I don't have a carbon canister in my 280ZX and I would like to install one.. the question is, will it be possible to use the canister of the Z32 into the 280Z? I guess they all have the same configuration (Purge,Vacume and tank)??

I have an original 1978 280Z and the Cad plated fuel rails are badly oxidized and just plain scuzzy looking. Is there such a thing as new or rebuilt stuff available?? Same goes for all the lids/caps on all the fluid holders throughout the engine. In other words , how do you take 28 years of grime off this stuff clean it or replace it to get it into show condition????

I have replaced two injector hoses in the past right after I bought the car a couple of years ago. That was not fun. Now I have two more leaking hoses. Would it just be easier to buy all new injectors and put those on instead? Don't they come with the hoses already on them anyway? If so how hard is it to replace the injectors and exactly what is the process for doing it? I see two bolts holding the injector on. Do I just pull off the fuel rail and then unbolt the injector and put the new one on, tighten it down and put the fuel rail back on or is there some special procedure that I have to follow to change the injectors? Do they use some kind of gasket and sealant? Is the…

My son has a 240Z chassis, a 280Z motor, and a body conversion kit, and no manual we have ever seen has a fuel system diagram that even looks close to what he has. I suspect most of the connections in the back are still pretty stock 240Z. It has a small overflow tank in the trunk with three connections on it, the main gas tank has two large hoses and three small hoses coming out of it (in addition to the main filler hose), and 3 fuel lines go up to the front of the car. All the hoses were rotting / splitting in the back, and letting fumes get into the car, so he took the whole thing apart without making a diagram of which hose went where. Also, to the best of our know…

I just did a auto to manual conversion, header, and exhaust. It seems that when my Z was an automatic, the idle was smoother. I blocked off my egr so I know it isn't that. I'm guessing it is a vacuum leak and it might be this... Any ideas what it is and its function? It seems to be missing a vacuum hose to somwhere... Thanks in advance, Mike

I'm (only?) getting about 35-37 PSI of fuel pressure at the fuel rail on my 280Z, and I'm wondering if that's an answer to the low power problem I seem to be experiencing (slow acceleration from a stop). There seems to be some power at highway speeds- enough to get 60 to 85 MPH within a reasonable distance for passing, but acceleration & merging with highway traffic is kinda slow. I put a can of SeaFoam through the engine, so I would assume it 'breathes' better than before, but still no improvement in power. The injectors were also serviced (and were pretty much matched for flow) about a year ago. So right now I'm looking for reasons that would explain low fuel pr…
