hey guys, just got me a Z (83 280zx) its rough, but i love it and its rebuildable. anywho, i went to my local scrap yard and raped a z for all i could get at one time. i noticed that the previous owner of my Z removed the fuel injector cooler. the Z i found had it so i took it and all the hardware...just wondering how crucial is that part? -carlo

I've been telling people for years ,as I fixed their cars, I'm not a mechanic. And this one's got me stumped. My '77 280Z starts great when it's cold, and it is getting cold here in Idaho, but last summer it would tend to flood, but only in the warmer parts of the day.Mornings were fine. Once started it runs strong. I have replaced both the distributor and coil, due to neccessity,I need to replace the radiator and water pump as the flow is not great and rad. is beat up(fixed a few leaks).Could this be the thermotime sw. or temp. sensor or cold start valve? Don't know where to start. Thanx BRIAN

I have a 78 280z, when I start it it will run like crap like it is going to die and then idles fine, when I come to the first stop or stop sign the idle will go up and down from 1000 rpms to 500 rpms and after that it will run fine . Does anyone have any idea what would cause that. I thought it was an air leak but am not sure. Thanks

Ok, so i jus got my car running again. its runnin really rich, Theres smoke and the car is runnign rough. I notic when i unplug the fuel pump when the car is running, that it begins to smooth out the idle or when i rev it. SO i kept tappin the fuel pump so it didnt stay on constantly and it ran jus fine. wat is rong? Fuel pressure regulator? Mafs? wat could it be? It all started after i changed the injector plugs.

Just bought a 280zx for a complete engine & efi swap into my 240z. Motor is in good cond, runs and idles ok but once the revs hit 2500 it dies and drops 500 rpm? Can anyone point me to which part I may need to check first, AFM, TPS, Dizzy? as I've got a 2nd setup for spares.thanks

I've been battling a smoking exhaust during decelertation mode on my 75-280 since aquiring it last year. Have rebuilt engine and have concluded that its not oil smoke ,at least not anymore. Cracked rings and head rebuild has eliminated all oil consumption, and engine runs great. However, still blowing smoke on decel mode, throttle closed conditions. Thus, due to black soot, and eye burning odor, must be too rich. #4 plug is more black fouled than others, so that injector may be stuck open....and looking at AFM, the PO has apparently been fiddlin with the idle bypass F/A mixture screw, cause when I opened it slightly CCW, the decel smoke lessened.Has new engine temp …

Ok. Im in the prosess of port matchin my intake manifold and was lookin at the runner inner diameters on my 280z's manifold. My friend has a 83 280zx and we've had his intake off b4. He compared it to a different manifold (not sure wat car it came from, maybe a maxima?) and his manifold had larger runners. Im not exactly sure of it but i tink it does. So i compared mine to the other manifold and it was the same size. So my question is basicly, does the 280zx intake manifold have larger bore runners than the one on my 77 280z? And another question is, does anyone know if it would be better to use the 280zx manifold because it has a different design? which design is better…

I cant figure out what is up with the motor. I have a 1976 280z that has an original l28 engine. It has the original fuel injection. When i have the throttle wide open it looses power after about 3700 RPM's, it doesnt loose all power but there is a very noticable amount. It hasnt done this forever but hase been getting worse recently. I have the timing set right so i don think that is the problem. I was wondering if maybe it could be the fuel pressure. Has anyone had problems similar to this. Little help please. James B.

I was wondering how hard it is to get the intake manifold off on a fuel injected Z, my intake is leaking and in need of a new gasket. I was looking at it earlier and it looks pretty rough getting in there to get the bolts off. Let me know what you guys think and an easy way to get to those bolts. Thanks
