after reading a few posts on this (most recently the great write-up by hardway) i decided to go for it. my fan has been making some pretty horrible noises - whining, screeching etc. and the output was weak. picked up a honda fan assembly for $30 on fleabay, gave it a quick clean and got myself geared up for the job. i won't go into all the details, as this has been posted before, but i will whole-heartedly validate the improvement. the new fan is quiet and blows like crazy. couldn't believe how much more efficient it is at moving air. the design is basically the same, but the honda fan has a lot more vanes, which are smaller and it's a slightly larger diameter - about …

I was looking at the pics for 240Z #476 that is on e-bay right now, and came across the attached pic of the passenger interior. Two questions: What is that big box under the dash? Something for air conditioning, like the evaporator maybe? And second, there seems to be a vinyl covering over wiring just at the end of the console - you can see three snaps on it in the picture. Is this something standard? My car doesn't have either the under-dash box or the vinyl cover. I may have to look for one of the vinyl covers if it is normally there... Thanks.

I'm sure this method has been used before, but this is the first time I've removed these rivets. Looks like whoever removed this rivet lost the center, so they replaced it with a piece of wire. possibly 18 gauge pretty cool. When I removed the panel I found the plastic centers they lost years ago.

Recently pulled my latest 240Z out of a side yard in Phoenix AZ. From the info in the glove compartment it is obvious that this car was sold new from Morrie Sage's Universal City Datsun in N. Hollywood, CA. I bought it from the second or third owner. It is very original except for the seat covers. My suspicion is that these covers were installed by the dealer before the initial sale as they used the original new white backs with inserts that were very well done. The car's orange paint and the orange and white inserts along with the cars very original condition and options (auto, A.C., white interior) makes me think the car was an early version of a common way to up…

I'm going to do fiberglass panels where all the vinyl was. I don't like all the draped vinyl everywhere, I prefer a more fitted look. I'm starting with the rockers then the tunnel. Here's shots of the quick rocker mold I made and the panels. These will be fitted into place then I will model up each end to finish off properly. The front will turn in and have a aluminum foot board across, i.e. Singer Porsche. The whole front cockpit area will be fitted glass wrapped in leather. The center console will also be changed. It will stop at the shifter surround and a panel will be made to close out the bottom of the dash down to the tunnel piece. The fuse will be relocated behind …

My son and I are restoring a 1973 240z. We are converting the interior from “tan/brown” to black. We will be replacing the seat foam and vinyl, and the headliner with new material. I am planning to use the SEM Color Coat system for the remaining plastic and vinyl pieces including the door cards. There are a number of choices and I do not have the experience to know how subtle or substantial the differences are within the color coat system. SEM offers: landau black #15013, gloss black #15233, satin black #15243, high gloss clear #13003, satin gloss clear #13013, and low luster clear #13023. Does anyone have experience with…

On a 71 240 Z I have, the piece that holds the sun visors in place that mounts beneath the rear view mirror, broke on the drivers side. It was pretty annoying having the visor flop around, and I finally took the visor off until I could locate a replacement part. Searched all over the place for another, no luck. Finally saw one on Etsy from a person who has a 3D printer named PlasticWiz, figured I'd give it a try. Removed my old one, which basically disintegrated while trying to pop it loose from the vinyl covered roof frame. Sanded the new ABS piece a bit and painted black. I suppose the "print lines" could be removed completely with a lot of …

Is there any way to tighten up the swivel of an interior mirror? I got a brand new one from a friend, and its flopping around. Can't see any way to tighten or adjust it.

I am in the middle of my fuel tank restoration process and have several queries: 1. Which is the exact or most precise color to primer and paint the full tank? Just plain semi gloss black in spray or should i brush it with POR-15? 2. Do i really need to replace all the gas tank hoses? Having difficulty on getting all of them. Have sent e-mails to MSA but they only have one available. I also send an e -mail to my dear friend Mike at Banzaiworks, who has really helped me a lot sourcing parts but he has none of those hoses. Anyone?

FYI Not too long ago I installed white gauge face overlays and some blue incandescent bulbs in my dash. (76 280z). The gauges turned out great, but the lights were still dim, and didn't have as much of a blue tint as I wanted. I don't want to do the bulbs again, since it is a time consuming job. I'm ready to drive it! I found these at the local parts store, others may have them. Plugs into your cig. lighter and has 4 bright blue LEDs that have 3M mounting tape on the bottom. As long as you clean the mounting surface (degrease), they stick great and light up very brightly. The clock isn't lit, since there are only 4, but my clock doesn't work anyway. …

Good Evening, My Z is a 1972. I've always assumed, or perhaps "had faith" is a better description, that the 'Z' emblem on the rear pillars concealed ventilation holes. (If not, seems like a heck of a lot of sheet metal work for no reason.) I've also assumed that a PO had redone the interior using after-market parts. Recently I had the right rear interior panel off to work on the evaporative canister and that exposed the backside of the Z emblem. So to speak. On the interior sheet metal and directly behind the Z emblem is a painted square maybe six inches on the side with an X-shape stamped into it. However, one thing I expected to find, but did not, was a connection…
