Any one have any tips on how to flatten out a warped Spare Tire cover? Mine was in good shape, but I had a Tail Gate water leak and particle board cover got wet. As luck would have it, my Tool Box was sitting on top and warped the cover. Cover is in really good shape, and I'd just like to flatten it out. I was thinking one of those Steam heaters and then some weight on top, or maybe wetting it down again and putting a sheet of Plywood and heavy weights on top? Your thoughts folks? TIA

I have a 1972 Z with the typical "waving speedometer problem". I tried cleaning and lubing the cable, but it was just too far gone. The problem was getting worse and then the speedometer started reading about 15 mph low. I replaced the cable and the waving problem went away immediately, but the speedo now reads too slow. I read a great post from a while back how a speedometer needle can get moved from its correct position. Should I try removing the speedometer and resetting the needle position? I know the speedo pinion gear in the transmission is correct for the read end of the car, so unless it has been damaged I don't think that is the problem. Thanks and Happ…

Is there any 'easy' way to do this? I'm trying to remove all of my interior trim to run new speaker wires, but the damn panel retainers are so small and tight I can't get any to pop out. My interior is perfect and crack free and I want it to remain that way. I also have no broken or missing panel retainers. I also like that.

hi, Has anyone tried the carpet and/or seat kits from Z Car Source , and does anyone know if they are the same manufacture as carpet/seat kits sold by MSA? I want to re-do mine in a hurry, and can't figure out which seats covers are the good ones. I know there are some poorer ones out there. If anyone has any other suggestions, I'm all ears. Thank you I'm tempted by this combo kit: http://www.zcarsource.com/carpet-vinyl-seat-upholstery-set-280z-77-78-late-77-coupe-black-new-kit_8_56097_197107.html

I found a box in the pile-o-stuff with original diamond-pattern vinyl for the resto I'm undertaking, but the carpet I've been given looks pretty bad for a resto car. It would be sub-par for a street car that needs some form of carpet or another, but not ideal for a resto at all. dying it with Rit won't save it, so I'm on the lookout for a 3rd party set... But after looking at 5 different websites, and from my passed experience with my Z31 300zx carpet purchase- I will say that I am weary of just buying any one of the items I've stumbled across. Does anyone make a reproduction item that is as close to early 70's as possible? Or is it even possible to get NOS ones? look…

Is it possible? the 280Zed doesn't have them in stock form, but Personally, I cold use them so I wouldn't have to lay my race entry tickets, toll ticket, receipts, or any other loose papers on the passenger seat. I would suppose so; you just sew, glue, staple or otherwise attach a bit of vinyl or some flexible material with an elastic band at the top, with enough gathered material so you can put your map in the pocket. Is there such a thing as an add-on pocket, in either cloth/vinyl or rigid plastic? My DD has plastic bins on the doors where I keep some tools or rags/gloves.

Dear Forums, I have a '77 280Z and I wanted to install an extender for the stock shifter to decrease the distance between the steering wheel and the knob. From what I understand, the original thread size is 8mm....is that correct? I can't find an extender that fits that size. Anyone know of one? Thanks!

I'm looking to install a Pioneer Single Din head unit in my 1976 280Z. Was going to make a template and custom cut an overlay Faceplate out of 1/8" Black ABS. Have some material that is pretty close to original console texture. Then I had a thought about 3D printing. I'm wondering if any one has had a radio faceplate 3D printed for our cars, or can offer any suggestions on the best way to proceed. Not interested in concealed radio installation etc. TIA.

I was doing some interior panel work on my 73, and noticed 2 large threaded holes on each side between the hatch and quarter window. What were they used for? They seem pretty far back to be used for a shoulder belt. Were they left open as shown? Just curious....

As of this date (6/26/2012) butterscotch colored seat covers, and the vinyl diamond pattern tunnel and shock tower covers are available from Classic Datsun. Call Les at (760) 940-6365 for details. Finally, I'll be able to complete my '71 240Z resto!

Yesterday, I removed the dash cap to see if I could start on a restoration, I've read the restoration threads and felt it was doable. Now for the kicker whoever put the full dash cap on(not me) used about 100 tubes of latex caulk to hold it in place and/or fill gaps, the result when taken off was that about 50% of the orignal dash vinyl came off with the cap as well as a lot of the original foam padding. Question is do I try to restore or just put a new cap over it? I will have to glue the pieces of factory foam that came off, that I could save in chunks, into place but would still have lots of big gaps. I'll post a pic later today. Thanks for the advice. Mike
