Dear forum members, My father recently bought a restored 240Z from 1973. The steering wheel in the car is definitely not original, that on itself is not an issue, but it uses some kind of adaptor that extends the steering shaft with 11cm (4,3inch), which is very inconvinient to drive the car. We have been looking for an original steering wheel but it looks like these are rare to find and expensive. There are also new non-original steering wheels, but they often use adaptors and we are afraid that we will end up in the same situation. Has anyone expirience with steering wheels that don't use adaptors, or only small ones? Or are there sources of buying an original steering…

I just recently bought a 1 knob calendar clock but the little plastic knob is missing. I've been searching the net and cannot find anything on people replacing their lost knobs. In my search for a missing knob I may have found a replacement. The 280zx quartz clock has a very similar knob. I haven't yet tried to fit the knob yet. It does look promising from the pictures. Keeping my fingers crossed

A while ago I made a couple wooden shift knobs (http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/44856-making-a-wooden-shift-knob/) and while I think they turned out pretty well, I've always knew there was some room for improvement. They were "close" to the original design, but just different enough to bug me. So with that in mind, I set out to make couple more with the intent to see how close I could reproduce the original knob. After a completely unprofitable and unreasonable amount of time, effort, trial and error, and raw materials, this is what I've got. The knob I made from scratch is on the left and the original Datsun knob is on the right. Only catch is that since the shift …

I finally got around to installing the new headliner in the Z, which was missing when I bought it. It wasn't too bad, was somehow able to do it without a second pair of hands. I strung baling wire from the upper mirror mount to the interior light to drape it over as I worked it into place. Then dropped each side to spray the glue and attach. so here's the before: And the after: Still missing one hanger

Anyone successful with removing the tach and speedo with a full face dash cap in place? I need to remove the speedo to repair or replace. How about removing from the back instead of the front?

I had an electrical fire in the dashboard and have completely gutted the car and dashboard with new wiring harness. Before I install I am looking at a 41 year old rusty heater core and wondering should I replace it or take it to a shop to have it refurbished? It doesn't leak but since it is exposed I am wondering if now is the time to have it either replaced or gone through. It looks like MSA may carry them but I am wondering if they are good or is better to have mine refurbed? How much refurbishing can a radiator show do?

I'm not sure if this is normal for these quirky old cars, so I figured I'd ask before I start tearing into things. (I almost took my door apart once since I couldn't lock it with the door open ) Anyway, my heater works to my expectations for a car that recently had its 40th birthday, but heat only comes out the defrost or floor. I'm guessing that's normal, since the heater panel only says those options. This wouldn't bother me so much but the dash vents ( the round ones on each side, and the rectangular one in the center ) continue to blow cold winter air on my hands while I drive. Should they blow hot, too? Or should the not blow at all when the heat is on. Just somet…

Called jegs but couldn't get an actual answer or blue prints of the dimensions of the tubing. Does anyone know if the A-pillar tubing run behind the dash or does it run in front of the dash where the dash wouldn't need to be removed?

Can anyone recommend a shop that sells replacement gauges? I've looked at autometer, but I didn't know if someone out there sold a set specific for the Z. Thanks!

My 1971 240 only has one speaker in the left rear, the same mounting holes are on the right side but no speaker, also on the left there are wires in the wiring harness, none on the right. The knob behind the on/off volume knob seems to be balance. The previous owner had installed 4 speakers (2 on kick plates and 2 behind seats). I'm trying to get back to original. Can anyone help with this? Thanks in advance.
