What does everybody use to replace that horse hair looking brown stuff under the seats on 240s? Thanks for any suggestions.

I just installed, 3 weeks ago, a new full face dash cover. Looks really nice. Now my Tach decides to fail! It's stuck at 2800 rpm. My question is: what is the trick to removing the tach through the front of the new dash cap? I havent spent too much time trying to remove it but it will not come past the "rolled" lip of the dash cap. Anyone else have this issue and found a solution? Thanks.

I am in the process of restoring a 280z but the hatch support hinges rusted off. I will be welding in new hinges and I was wondering if someone could give me the dimensions of where the hinge is located on each side. Approximately how many inches from the bottom and the top of the rear hatch area.

I am trying to change out the old cassette radio in my 1972 Z. My Haynes manual is a bit unclear about that area of the car. I have taken the shift console out and removed the screws holding the big rectangle plate that holds the air/heat controls and the opening for the radio. The aftermarket radio that is now in that area will not slide out the radio opening, it is just a fraction too big. I have that panel loose, but can not see how to get it free enough to work on getting the radio out. The air controls seem to be attached to the panel from inside the dash, but I can not figure out how to get it free. Any advice on what to do next would be appreciated. Thanks, Char…

Is there such a thing as a lock for the jack and tool bins behind the seats? Maybe a gas-door kind of hardware. My '72 offers little sense of security and I (my wife, actually) would like to feel a little better about leaving things in the car. I understand the concept of "don't" -- just checking

I have fabricated a few dashboards and am trying to see if anyone is interested. Here is the dashboard going into my Z. I just covered it with felt for now. The dash will come in a left and a right half. Perfect for the racer or someone looking for something different than a stock dashboard. I also made the dashboard that was in the HybridZ race car. (mock up in my 260Z) The dashboard is not finished and needs finishing. You can cover the dashwith fabric, leather, paint, powdercoat, or polish at extra cost. I can ship the dash with any of these done. It will come sanded smooth ready for a cover if ordered as raw aluminum. I can make a half dash or full dash. …

The dash in my 1970 Z has the usual cracks (although not so extreme as some examples I've seen other owners post on this site). I'm in the middle of restoring the car's interior and, at this stage, the dash is only a few bolts and connectors shy of being ready to pull out of the car. I've already removed all of the instruments for service and they're now refurbished and ready to go back in. Same for the heater box, radio and centre console. The issue is that I already have a full dash cap ready to be installed. I'm torn between going that route (cap) as opposed to pulling the dash and doing the foam-and-bedliner refinish. I don't expect that I'll ever get this cl…

Interior panel attachment for hatch on early 240s The holes in the hatch (6) for the plastic interior attachment rivets are too small. This makes the rivets difficult to install and remove without undue aggravation and possible collateral damage to valuable parts. I use a razor blade and carefully slice off one of the four plastic fingers on the backside of the rivet. They still attach tight and are removed easily. Additionally I reuse them instead of damaging them beyond usefulness. Good Luck

So I am in process of re-habbing a 240 that was on its way to being a drag strip car (!). I was just plodding along, taking the sellers word that it was a 72, but upon taking the dash out for the super-cool repair process, I noticed the VIN - starts with a 3. (didn't write it down, and I am at work). So, should I think more towards resto, rather than rodding? Would a 71 bring more $$ than a 72, if both were properly restored?

I've read other posts about taking out the tach/speedo and the dash and some give me basic steps but i'm about a quarter of the way into it and its EXTREMELY hard. I have no idea how to do some of these things. IF anyone could post a very detailed run through of how to remove both the dash and the tach/speedo that would be much appreciated

I took my steering wheel clamshell trim off a while ago, and now I can't find the four screws that hold the two halves of the clamshell together. The stupidest part is that I have the two machine screws that hold the lower clam to the underside of the ignition switch and steering column, but the four that hold the two plastic parts together are MIA. I've got a container of assorted Z hardware and might have something in there that might work, but I've tried a few and I'm worried about stripping out the weak plastic threads with too much trial and error. Anyone have a picture of the four screws in question so I at least know what I'm hunting for? Are the threads more…
