I'm rounding the bend on the interior refurb on my 4/71, doing rust treatment before repaint. I have the seats, carpet, jute, and insulation out. As expected found hidden rust and evidence of water pooling from outdoor storage (bad rear hatch seal, I think). Forunately I've found no rust-through, the insulation asphalt is so degraded in spots, it's flaking off by hand. A few of questions, I did a search but can't find the specific answer: Do I need to remove the dash to get at the front part of the trans tunnel and the firewall insulator? I have the factory A/C option, if I have to remove the dash are there extra mounting locations for the evaporator or can th…

While making my own carpet for a 240Z I noticed snaps at Thrifty hardware (used to be ACE hardware) that fit the early 240Z carpet snap hardware on the firewall insulation. The new snaps snap on securely. Attached are pictures of the package and measurements in case anyone is curious.

If any of you have the non-retractable seat belts in your older Z and want to upgrade to a non-intrusive retractable belt, here is some good news! I found a roof-mount retractable that will not interfere with your seat. Works like a champ. Go to wescoperformance.com and take a look at their part number 800566 3-point retractable. $64.95 + tax and shipping. It works!

I was thinking of getting my dashboard rebuilt, but after reading how difficult it is to ship it across the country, I was wondering if anyone has a shipping box that that is built well enough (like a fiberglass golf case or wooden crate) to accommodate safe shipping more than once, and can be rented. By loaning it out to others, you could recuperate the cost of building something substantial.

So my dash is out and since it's out I'm going to refinish it and fix all the cracks in it, I have all the gauges out except for the speedometer. The speedometer removal is as easy as the rest except there is the tripometer reset knob and cable, the knob seems to be attached to the cable (knob also cannot be pulled through dash) and the only place I can see to remove it from is right before the cable goes in the speedometer there is a TINY screw. I can take pictures if necessary. Anyone know how to go about this? Also 77 280Z if it helps.

Thanks to yoshi_w and all of his posts about his own dash, I have been inspired to take on this challenge and do one on my own too. I am still in the process of doing the whole "restoration" for these dashes as a practice for my own personal dash in my 260z. My goal was to be able to get this doing in a good and timely manor and on a budget that will have a lasting dash for the years to come. Day 1: Got everything I need!!! Day 2: The dash has been sanded down with a drill and 80 grit sanding pad along with hand sanding. I have also tested the spray foam on a makeshift crack I made out of 2 pieces of cardboard that was glued together to test how far the foam woul…

I recently put a newish radio in my Z. I've got a long list of "What I was looking for in a radio", and the best thing I found for the features I was looking for was out of a Kia (also used in Hyundai): The mechanical install turned out great, and I really like the way it looks and feels. Problem is... It doesn't sound good. The system works as intended, but I want more bass, especially at low volume. It's like the bass is barely there at mid-volumes, and completely disappears at low volume. I don't know if the problem is the head unit, the speakers or something else. Have we got any audiophiles in the braintrust that can bring me up to speed with theory stuff?

Hey guys. I have what I'm pretty sure is the original shift knob on my 240z, however, unfortunately, the gear map/cap is missing. I'd like to replace just the cap and polish and restore the original rather than change the whole knob out. Is there anywhere I can get accurate replacements for the 4 speed '73 knobs gear map?

My friend and I both own 240z's, and both of us had cracked dashes. Also, both of us hate covering up problems so a simple dash cap was not gonna do it. However, we are both lacking in high monetary compensation from our jobs so we decided to experiment and find a cheaper way to repair our dashes. This involved the use of silicone, bondo, light gorilla glue, jb kwik, and finally "Flex Seal". We began with the silicone, but quickly found out this really only works well for larger cracks, and also tends to have some small air pockets as well as it tears away from inconvenient cracks, still leaving medium to small size cracks un-repaired. To remove the excess silicone a 3" …

I'm putting aftermarket seats in. The stock fabric and foam is thrashed. Mechanically and functionally sound. Should I try to sell them, if so how much? Or should I dump them? Thanks
