The little holes for the screws on my cover all (3) broke out. Here is what I did. The cover are very hard to find and not cheep if you do. I drilled very small holes by hand with a drill bit and uses some SS wire to make the new attachment places. The little screws are hidden under a plastic cover and you can not see much of the wire, I also used a marker to make the wire black.

Custom Dash Build 1 2 3 4

Finally took off the dash Saturday night and am starting to strip the car down to the firewall. I am removing the metal dash frame off the dash, and using that in the car to fabricate a custom fiberglass dash I intend to wrap in PVC leather. The ultimate goal is a dash that: Looks modern (shooting for an RX8/WRX style instrument cluster) Has space for 6 gauge pods (maybe five, we'll see) Has double din for touchscreen. Has upgraded, modern round vents Is set back 1-3 inches compared to the existing dash Can accommodate vacuum actuators for climate control I've been planning this for about 2 years. Finally taking the plunge!

Thought I'd lay into a few steering wheels that have been lying around. The one on the '71 needed to be restored, so I figured if I was buying the supplies and investing the time, I might as well do all three. Hope to have them all done within a week or two.

My passenger side window recently turned very stubborn. Towards the top of its travel it would get hung up, and I'd have to grip the glass and wobble it upwards while turning the crank. I took the door apart to investigate and found that the felt "track" that the window rides in at the back of the door seems to have torn or separated. When the window mechanism hits this spot it gets hung up. I liberally greased the felt and the other parts of the window mechanism and it helped a lot. I also had the driver door apart to fix the lock and I noticed the same separation in the felt, although the window still operates normally. Can anyone tell me if this is normal? This is l…

I have new vinyl for my "72, but have some questions about preparing for installation. All the original carpet and vinyl was removed in this area, so I don't have much to go on. The tar mat is in excellent shape. Should I just glue the vinyl to the tar mat or can I put down a layer of Fat Mat, or maybe some other product that has some cushioning to it? I know from previous experience with a Datsun Roadster, that changing dimensions can make a difference to whether things fit later on. Thanks for your help on this simple question.

Hi all, The ebrake switch retainer is missing on my car and I was wondering what does it look like? The attached picture points to the switch but I want to know if the L shaped bracket the switch is plugged into just slips over the tab on the non moving part of the ebrake assy or does it also go under a bolt to hold it on? If anyone just has the switch retainer (and switch too?) they want to sell me that would be terrific but understandably most want to sell the whole ebrake assy. I can get the switch off of eBay but not the retainer. I may have to make a retainer and was wondering how secure it needs to be. The PO did a nice thing and replaced the whole ebrake as…

So I bought a 73 240z and the driver side door lock won't go down when using the key. It will just go down a 1/4 inch but not lock. If you have the window down and operate the lock knob by hand you can lock and unlock it without any problems. I've lubricated what parts I could see, and sprayed lock de-icer inside the lock. That didn't work. I'm assuming at this point Ill need to remove something to clean better? The driver door skin was replaced at one point. I can snap pictures of anything if needed. Please don't tell me to search, I've been searching for the past couple weeks and found alot of good info but no one had my exact problem that I could find. Thanks in adava…

Hi all, I noticed today that the Jo Ann fabric store here is selling "pot liners" that appear to be made of jute as they look identical to the jute that is under the transmission hump vinyl in my car in thickness and in appearance. It is sold in a large floppy hat shape but also in a long skinny shape suitable for lining a window planter box in case someone has some missing pieces they would like to fill in. It was $10 for the floppy hat shape. Mike

Could I get one of you guys to take a pic of your overhead retractable seat belt mount? The area above and to the back of the side windows. My interior panels have been covered and I'm not sure exactly where the seat beat anchors mounted. (been to long since I took it apart) Thanks Bryan

Found a nice SW 2 5/8" vacuum gauge that matches the stock gauges almost perfect. Since the clock doesn't work that would be the place for it. I like the stock lighting and dimmer knob. Any chance of using the stock light or modding the Stewart-Warner light to match the other gauges? Also, is it possible to get at the clock by removing the glove box liner and not the dash? I read the link from zhome.com about gauges - the photo of the back of the stock gauge makes keeping the stock gauge light seem unlikely, not sure though.

Hello all I'm planning on updating the gauges in my Z to something more modern and a bit more relaible. Does anyone know the resistance range of the fuel sending unit? I know I can replace them with something new but if I could make the stock one work it would mean less work. Thanks mates Jan
