I know how to check for a weak power booster that's on a working car and there are many videos on how to do that. I have several boosters from various cars that I've amassed and want to know how many, if any of them are still functional before I go to the trouble of refreshing one or more of them for my restomod. What I'd like to know is if there's a way to determine the "goodness" of a power booster that is off the car. I have a vacuum pump, tubing and gauges and figure that I could draw an 18" (or so) vacuum, shut the pump off and then watch the vacuum drop over time. I could do the same with the installed and working booster on my other S30 to estab…

Hello! I have noticed that my E-brake does not work, noticed that when I pull the E-brake lever nothing moves. The cables appear to not move even with everything tightened on the brackets. I am curious how to remove the equalizer bracket so I can place my new E brake cable? Thank you for your time!

An early Z car I did a restoration over the winter came back in this week for “tweeks and tightens” after going back into service since May. Owner said the e-brake didn’t work anymore. I had installed the reproduction cable available from Motor Sport Auto. https://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/24-5151-1 Discovered a major problem with at least this one, but I bet it’s more wide spread. I will tag Joseph@zstore or however you do that so they are made aware. @Joseph@TheZStore This is a picture from MSA’s website.

I installed a new brake booster and now I have LOTS of brakes! Anything more than minimal pressure and the brakes are on hard. i was careful to measure the lengths of the brake rods and the master cylinder rod, so the new booster is set up exactly the same. They don’t seem to be hanging up; none of the wheels show excessive heat after a short drive. The brakes worked ok before the booster swap; the old booster just had an air leak. any suggestions?

Is it possible to remove and replace the brake line going to the rear of a 1970 240Z WITHOUT removing the transmission? I need to replace the line because it has a leak, but I have not lifted up the car yet (to be scheduled) and wanted to find out if anyone had done it or knew if it was possible. I would prefer not to remove the tranny until the time I have to replace the clutch which is still very good now. I thought about it and saw some videos which left me wondering if there is enough room either thru the bottom or by going thru the shifter hole and accessing the 3 or 4 clamps that secure the brake line along the tunnel. It looked like the two inner clamps…

Has anyone sourced a decent substitute for these springs or have a spare pair available for sale perhaps and willing to ship to the UK please? Many thanks. Dave

I'm working on a '73 240z, and while I'm fine with mechanical work and such, wheels and tire sizes are a completely different world to me. My 240 is basically stock with the L28 and 5-speed swap, and Tokico Illumia adjustables. My daily is my motorcycle so the Z would be mostly when I need to haul stuff around, when it rains, and the occasional time when I feel like carving up the hills. I guess i'm looking for a decently grippy all weather tire. I'm leaning toward the Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS Pole position. So far I like the XXR 527 and 551 but I don't know what size or offset or any of that. I don't want them to stick out and don't want to put fender flares on. …

My brake booster just went out on my 75 280Z and I would like to replace it but suppliers are either out of stock, want me to send in my booster and they will have it rebuilt or sell me a newer modern booster. I want a replacement booster that has the vacuum port coming straight out that will align with the stock Datsun preformed vacuum line and not the generic one that comes out and then turns at a 45 deg. angle. I have already ordered two boosters (Autozone) that are direct replacements and they show up with the vacuum port that comes out and then angles which is not what I have stock on my car. MSA, RockAuto, Parts Geek, and NAPA are all out of stock. Does anyone know…

Does anyone know or have any info as to the set up that Gordon McSwain is running on his car. Rim and tire size?, width?, Offset? His car was featured at S.E.M.A week where it raced against some other modified 350 z's I think. It has been a trial and error for alot of people to get just the right wheel and tire fitment and look on the S30. In my opinion, the Watanabe RS in gun metal is the best looking rim on these cars, but the offset and back spacing changes the overall look. I was reading on the "post your wheel and tire" forum and one member got some from Japan and said they were 15x8 with 0 offset, but they looked much different from Gordon's car. In my opinion, Gor…

Trying to get the Drum Brakes Backing Plate off of the strut assembly on my 1975 280z. The strut is off of the car and the stub axle is removed and well as the companion flange. The four bolts on the backing plate have been removed as well as the brake line. The backing plate and the axle tube appear to be one piece due to rust. I'm pretty sure they are two separate pieces but I don't want to damage anything using an air chisel to separate them. Can anyone confirm this? Really appreciate it! E
