Wheels & Brakes

Discussions about different wheel & tire combinations and the affects on a Zcar.

I am in the process of restoring my original '70 D Wheel Covers and wanted to gather some additional info about them. Does anybody have detailed reference pictures of these wheel caps in Mint/show quality condition? Were the covers chromed or polished? What color is the grey area? What is the best method to restore the caps to their original beauty ( mine clean up well enough for driver quality)? Thanks for all of the help.

I was putting in my new eibach springs and tokico blues and I broke the hard brake line at the top of the rear wheel well. To even get the threads to come out it required an oxy acetylene torch to heat to red hot hod, smoking and boiling brake fluid before it would come loose. When it cooled off it froze together again with rust, and broke the hard line when moving out of the rubber hose threads. I can't disconnect the other end without breaking it. The oxy torch couldn't even loosen it, and the gas lines are so close to the valve at the rear that is not safe to torch. Every single bolt on my car required an oxy torching to red hot before it would budge. The ones that…

But I have questions. Where is Arne? Dude knows everything about period wheels from the 70’s! i currently have 15X7 0 offset (I think) id like to go 16X7 or 8 if possible, or a squared 16x7 all the way around. What have you guys done successfully? What tire size have you used? Where the hell do you buy them? I’ve seen wild price differences! Here are pics of the car with a set of Kosei K1’s, (I didn’t like them, too modern) and the current Panasport.

  4. So basically the title says it. I got these new Brembo brakes from a corvette but its pretty big, and I need to change the rotor and brackets that holds the Brembo brakes. I have a 76' Datsun 280z. Can somebody please give me some advice/suggestions? Here is some brief information about me and my car. I'm 19 in the US Air Force and is currently doing for fun. My goal is to make this car a daily driver. This is my first project car and I'm new to this forum. Its a 76' Datsun 280z and I'm swapping it with a VQ35DE 350Z Rev-up rebuilt 06' engine with a 360Z tranny 06'. Any suggestions from you guys would be extremely helpful.

I haven’t seen anything like this in the forums and it maybe another way that everyone is doing this. Anyway, thought I would add my way. I recently installed a Brake Booster on my 1976 280Z. When it came time to bolt up the master cylinder to the brake booster, I knew that I was going to have to make an adjustment on the push rod that goes into the master cylinder from the brake booster. If you have ever done this job, it's sort of guessing game on just how much you should turn the push rod in or out. After looking at the whole setup for awhile, I think I have come up with a way that will get you pretty close. - Insert a small screwdriver into plunger opening of maste…

I'm finally getting around to rebuilding the brakes on my 260Z. I thoroughly researched the 4 piston caliper upgrades, both for vented and non-vented rotors, and never found any measurements that would confirm if either would work with my current wheels. So, I chose to do a mostly stock rebuild with a few upgrades until I eventually get new (bigger) wheels and am free to do a huge upgrade. I tore the front left down today since it was fairly warm outside. I hope I can get to the other side tomorrow. Pre-destruction. Look at that rotor! :disappoin The brake hose doesn't look much better. All torn apart Rebuilt calipers for this thing are around $50 a piece, so…

Does anyone know where to get the 2 master vac hoses for a series 1 240z? I can't seem to find them anywhere. Nissan no longer has any available and I haven't been able to find them on any other z website.

http://www.tempetyres.com.au Go to 17" Packages and part #'s 7001 7002 7003 7006 Will all fit without any spacers, straight bolt on and drive away, not to sure about what tyres you can fit on though, the bloke i spoke to said you should be able to run 235/45-17's or 225/45-17's without to many clearance issues, Also, www.performancewheels.com.au Lotus & Tempest in the 17" by 7" will fit, but you will not be able to fit any larger than 205/40-17 on the front unless you use spacers - this means the overall running diameter of the tyre/wheel is 596mm - factory its about 628mm There is not much choice out there so i thought i put this down in case anyone was chasing bigge…

Hey all, I know this topic has been covers a ton of times. In trying to read most (not all) of them I haven't come across what I was thinking about. I guess I am trying to think outside the box and be different then what most are doing. What about using the brake setup from a 93-95 Mazda RX-7. They have been used in a few other setups. Here are some of the benefits I can think of: Fronts - 4 piston Rear - 2 piston Both are AL (much light then 4x4 upgrade) Aren't very hard to find Can be bought brand new for pretty cheap The other main thing I can think of that will need to be made is a bracket to hold them. I'm sure I am making this easier then it actually will be…

Here are some pages from an old American Racing Equipment catalog from 9-70. These were all the four lug wheels and accessories available from ARE at the time and many were fitted to 240Z's. It's interesting that the Libre's are being marketed for 240Z's, but Le Mans wheels are advertised for European cars with "the smart continental look", such as the Porsche 914, VW, and Alfa Romeo. -Mike

  11. I'm resurrecting a '71 240z, and discovered that the can on my brake booster has significant rust issues on the lower rear exterior. In search of a replacement booster, I'm finding that the early ('70-'71) rebuilt/reconditioned options are not available. I ordered one from the local parts store, and although the photo in their system was identical to mine, there are differences in the piece the supplier sent. The store manager did some searching and found that the one in the photo is not available. I checked with a few other suppliers and ran into the same issue. My question is, will a '73 240z booster work in my car? The can shape and dimensions are the same as mine, the…

A friend of mine has a set of Gotti wheels he wants to sell. He says they are made in Italy. They LOOKED at least 2-piece, but it was dark...they may have been 3-peice (all the little bolts looked functional--not just rivets or something). They are five-spoke with the rim being silver and the spoke gold. I can't seem to find any website for Gotti Wheels. A bunch of outdated sale ads came up for some Ferrari's and Renault's (with Gotti's) when I searched. So....to my trusty and knowledgeable Z brotha's! Does anyone here know anything about these wheels? They look almost exactly like these: Thanks! steve77/86/71
