This has me a little baffled, so I figured i'd ask you guys. My origional intent was to swap out my transmission this morning, but I realized that I forgot to order a new transmission mount. Instead of wasting the rest of the day, I gave the undercarrige a once over. While I was under the car i noticed that my drivers side rear tire had a gash in the inside wall, so I took the car down to discount tire to have them replace it. As it turns out it was a "cosmetic" gash and only "looked" bad. They DID say that the tire needed to be replaced though, but not for the reason that I took it to them. The tire was pretty much bald on the inside, but had normal wear on the outside.…

I just returned from Visiting a friend in Kettering, OH. When I set up for the visit(about a month ago) I thought "Why don't I try to get a tour of the Dayton Wire Wheel factory.(I have an Alpha 1 GTO (Ferrrarri GTO Body) I built on a '77 280Z chassis that I want some real knock-off wire wheels for)-before some of you shout "Blasphoemer!", label me a ricer, and generally get off on how much of a wanker I am, the body was gone-the rear fender lips were 2" strips of air, the doors were missing more skin than was left, the hood, front fenders, and metal ahead of the radiator was fubar by a moron PO who is right up there with the maker of the Catepillar yellow snowplow ZX. I…

Hey guys, A couple of days ago, there was a post that discussed the rear disc brake conversion on early Z's and some of the folks were interested in what to use for the rear caliper mounting bracket. Well, I looked through my files last night and here is the info: When installing 82 - 83 280ZX rear calipers on the early Z cars, use the following p/n DAT 4415504S10 ADAPTOR C (2req) These are caliper mounting brackets from 81 - 84 Maxima front wheel drive cars and they are the ticket, as opposed to fabricating your own brackets from raw stock. Yes, a factory Nissan (Datsun) part that bolts right upto your early Z.

If you read my post a couple days ago, i was looking for a kit to rebuild my proportioning valve, after dissasembling the valve i decided to clean it all up (its alot more than a ball and spring) i found out! The bores looked good so i cleaned up the piston assy. etc. the seals looked pretty good and still soft so i reassembled the valve and reinstalled it in the car. I got in and pumped the brakes a few times and i actually had some good pedal feel until i started the car! Now i have none! I re-bled the master cylinder (i have a question about that later) and re-bled the brakes in the correct order! Still no pedal with the car running. Now to my question.... I'm no…

anyone know anything about the konig rewind wheels? they are panasport/minilite knockoffs and there is a guy selling 14x7's for 300 a set on ebay. he has several sets, all silver. The list on them was around 100 a wheel. does anyone know if these were discontinued and why? I'd love to have a set of the black ones, but haven't found any around. BW

I found some wheels that look great on a z however, I can't find out who makes them. Anybody know what wheels they are and who is the manufacture? Thanks in advance! http://www.virtual1.net/dave/newwheels.htm

Ok here i go again working on these darn brakes! After replacing the master cylinder, front calipers, rear wheel cylinders all 4 hoses, and the brake booster i attempted to bleed the brakes AGAIN! i have good flow at all 4 corners, i bench bled the M/C, and bled the rest of the system as called out in the book, i checked the length of the booster rod and it's 10mm as called out for a 1978 280Z.... when i apply the brakes the rears will hold but the fronts will not. I removed and dissasembled the proportioning valve and found it all gunked up, (when removing the valve i only lost fluid from the rear brake lines, no fluid came out of the front lines). Now to my question…

My '70 240 has hubcaps with a "Z" in the center. I notice that some Z-car hubcaps have a "D". Is there info with regards to what years have what caps? Thanks, Steve

I recently started converting my brakes over to drilled rotors, higher friction pads, steel lines, etcetera. Trouble is this--the front hub and disk seem to be well connected, and in fact, seem to split in the middle, as opposed to having the hub be one piece which fits through the disk. Any thoughts on separating these two pieces without damaging the hub? I could really care less about the disk, as I have a replacement, but the 240z hub seems to be a hard/impossible to find piece, and I can't destroy it with cave man deconstruction techniques in an attempt to get it free. I also have no garage, and so all repair work must be done inside of a day, so I can reassemble and…

I just thought about something, everyone seems to agree that the S12W Toyota 4 piston calipers with vented discs will not fit behind a 14" wheel and that you must go to at least a 15" wheel. Well what about putting a wheel spacer on? This would push the wheel out some. Would this allow for the S12W behind a 14" wheel? How sturdy/stable are the wheel spacers? I will be autoxing my car so I will be hitting lots of turns very hard and would not want any problems.
