Hey Guys: I upgraded the front brakes on my 240 with the Modern- Motorsport vented rotor and the S12W 4 piston caliper, nice stuff. I find that the caliper sticks out past the wheel mounting plate on the hub by 5/8". I was hoping to stay away from a spacer plate and find a 15" or 16" wheel that would work. If anyone has crossed this hump:tapemouth I would sure appreciate the help:D Thanks Peter

While driving my 71 yesterday, I noticed a lot of drag while not even touching the brakes. This is the car I picked up 2 weeks ago. Last night I checked it out, and the left rear wheel seems to have the brake stuck in the "on" mode. I was only able to turn the drum by placing a long bar on it to spin it. I also noticed that the parking brake was not connected to the wheel cylinder. I don't have a whole lot of brake experience yet. It' not the parking brake cable, since it's not connected. I did not notice any leaking fluid. Could it be the wheel cylinder gone bad? What would cause the brake to be stuck on like that, and what should I do about it? TIA, Marty

Hi guys, I believe this just recently started happening. When i press on the brakes they start to hiss. Even If i press lightly, and continue to the end of the pull. They are really soggy when you push on them and then have to mash them to the ground to get it to stop. I thought it was air in the system but did not know about the hissing. Also at idle when i press the brakes in about an inch they hiss and keep hissing. The engine does not drop RPM but runs alot rougher likes its out of timing, The whole car shakes from The engine. ALSO when i start teh car it WILL not go into gear untill it warms up, about a minute. Once it warms up the clutch stiffens up a bid,…

Hi all, Well I've pretty much finished my suspension upgrades to the 72 240Z I've recently finished. She now handles fantastic! What's pretty cool, is that I still have the original steel wheels and hub caps on her which gives a very stock appearance. With those wheels, the bumper over-riders, and the automatic tranny she comes across as a "grandmotherly" car. Watch out though on the back roads because she can stick pretty good to those curves. The weak link in the handling is the tire and wheel combo at this point. I've been kind of enjoying the sleeper look and want to know if anyone is aware of wider steel wheels ( probably from another make and model vehicle) th…

What comes in one? do you get new pistons or just seals and springs? I can't get my front piston out, may be just crud but it won't blow out. I figure I can drill and tap a hole in the end and pull it but if new ones don't come with the kit it's time for a new master cylinder. I'm hoping that someone has been there done that and can tell me what comes in the kit or another way to get the piston out. Looking forward to any hints, Lance

I have been looking for some natural finished Watanabe's for my 260z. I wanted 15 by 7j. How would these fit on my car? Would the tires stick out of the wheel wells? Do I have to get special lugnuts for them? If so, how hard are the lugs to find. Thank you. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=43955&item=2426679735 -Ben

My 240 has been setting for 14 years, it had new brakes when it was put away. I've taken off the calipers and have popped the pucks out after a little work. They were pretty much fully compressed when on the car but rusted to the caliper a bit in front of the inner o-ring. No rust in the body or on the puck other than the outer 1/8". My question is after cleaning should these be OK to rebuild? I'd rather rebuild these than buy rebuilts. I've had bad experiances buying rebuilt parts for old cars, you just never know how many times they were rebuilt, and I can't afford new at this time. I'm figuring that since the rust is in front of the inner O-ring this won't affect anyth…

I have been searching this forum in hopes of clearing up a brake problem I have been having. I think I know what the problem but was hoping for a little insight from you all. I have been having a beast of a time with my brakes. In order to get the brakes to work I have to pump them several times then they will lock up. I have spent countless hours bleeding them and sure I have the air out of the system. The car did sit for many many years without being driven and I read in a post that the master cylinder can be damaged if the brake pedal is depressed to far. Does this problem sound like it could be the master cylinder? I was planning on removing it tonight and ex…

I have a '72 240Z and want to convert the drums to disks. I saw a referance to a kit from Eric Chapman that used 280 parts. Does anyone have a link to a site that describes this? Or where I can get the brackets? Thanks.

what is the size of the stock brake master cylinder on a 1971 240z? I am looking to buy a new bmc and have seen 15/16" and 7/8" bmc for 240Z's. does it matter which one i purchase? is one better than the other?

I posted about my brake problem a while backhttp://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7740 . It was suggested that I should replace the vacum tubing. I did that and it still has the same problem. I am thinking I should just vacum test it - I will have a chance to do that later this evening. If the check valve is bad, is there any shop that might carry it or do I need to go for Victoria British or MSA? THanks!
