I recently purchased from a popular on-line Z-car supplier a rebuild kit for the rear brake proportioning valve on a '71 240. The problem is that rebuilding of the valve assembly appears all but impossible. Somehow a spring has to be compressed about half way into a cylinder and held in place while a spring clip is pinched, inserted and pressed against the top of the spring. I have read some comments on this forum that no, it is not possible to rebuild, but then why would a reputable supplier sell the kit? Is there a special tool to enable the job? Your thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

Having the car stripped down to the shell I started looking at the hard lines and fittings, they are in sad shape, usable but just. Has anyone replaced all their hard lines and have any advice to offer? I'm thinking I'll make them myself from fresh tubing but not sure which bubble and flare kit to buy, if I should stick with zinc coated steel lines or go with SS. Thanks, Chris

I am planning to replace the tires on my 1974 Datsun 260Z TF. So far, I have only checked out Toyo Tires Proxes 1. Is anyone familiar with it?

I have seen photos of a lot of restorations where the replacement hard brake lines are not precise enough to fit inside the rubber frame mount bushings in the engine bay. Has anyone bought brake lines & fuel lines from classictube.com? Are the bends precise enough to fit in the existing frame mounts? Thanks

The engine bay brake and fuel / vapor lines are galvanized steel right ? I'm thinking of treating them with Ospho phosphoric acid and then painting them with a small brush. I think I read somewhere you're not supposed to ospho galvanized steel but maybe that only applies to new or un-rusted parts.

A guy I know who lives not far from me has been scouring yahoo japan using buyee looking for some nice wheels, this is what he found. They were mislabeled as 14" but are actually 15"x 7", he got them for $500 CDN, of course the shipping costs were horrible. They have no rim rash, no scrapes or damage, couldn't believe it when I saw them.

The red plastic collar around my check valve has seen better days. On my series-1 Z it had a black rubber collar around the check valve and looked new. Does anyone know where to find these? I hate to buy a whole new valve when I just want to replace the collar. I looked around at Home Depot for awhile and did not really find anything. Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you!

One of the things that's always bugged me was the lack of a return spring on the parking brake handle. The first couple clicks on my car were completely loose and floppy and the handle would rattle a little over bumps when driving because there was really nothing to hold the handle down. So I fixed it... I added a return spring. I messed around with a couple different options and here is the method I thought was the best option. Here's the parking brake assy from the top side. Looks completely normal from the top: But on the bottom side, I drilled a couple holes and made a spring to pull the handle down into the off position, Not a lot of force, but just enough to ove…

i Just bought a 260z datsun with a new motor and tranny. Brakes are soft and it takes a long time to stop. every time i hit the brakes my rpm goes up so i am assuming some seals in my brake booster are leaking causing a vacuum leak. so i will need a new brake booster. i checked all break lines. no leaks and fluid is topped off.

Has anyone tried to put dust shields on the back after doing a rear disc conversion? I was considering trying to adapt something from another car (280zx, maxima, Silvia, etc.) but wanted to see if anyone has tried, succeeded, or even just had parts laying around to see if it's feasible. Right now I'm thinking some 280zx shields could be red ripped to mount 45 degrees to their original position as long as the diameter works with the discs that come in the kit, which I still need to identify. Edit: the thread title should have said Fabricating, not raving (autocorrect).
