When I slip my foot off the brake pedal and there is still some play before the pedal reaches its maximum extension there is a metal to metal sound which I believe is due to the rubber padding on the end of the bolt that stops the pedal being worn out. I dont think the brake system is compromised in anyway, but the sound is annoying. I am 87 years young and getting under the dash is a challenge, to say the least, so I was wondering if anyone out there has replaced the bolt in question. From what I could see from my pretzel position there appears to be 3 different bolts in close proximity to one another. Appreciate any guidance that can be offerred re: technique to repl…

Hi, I have a 240Z that, when it was being driven (10 yrs ago) had a terrible rear wheel hop/bounce at fwy speeds. As i recal the wheel was balanced more than once. I believe it's always the driver-side rear that hops. If the problem is not the tire/wheel then Must it be half shaft universals? Is it possible the half shaft needs balancing? BTW: i just got it running today using gas out of a jug. Tires are all flat; I'm hoping gas tank Isn't full of rust!

so most of the aftermarket wheel center caps i have seen wont fit over the front hub covers, as was the case with my set of rota wheels. after searching for a set of deeper caps, and finding nothing that came close, here are a few pics of my cheap fix. rear wheel with the center cap. silver cap with a black center front hub with the msa cap powder coated and installed. doesnt look too bad, but the wheel cap wont fit here is my jig for centering and drilling the front wheel caps. the wheel caps are right at 2 1/2" od at the outer edge, and get bigger towards the wheel. so, i drilled a 2 1/2" hole, about 1/2" deep in a piece of 2x6 and chiseled out the …

Datsun sure didn't feel the need to go into much detail into these mechanisms, now did they? I think I may have figured out my problem, but am asking for input from our community experts before I start putting force on things that shouldn't be forced. I believe my adjuster mechanism is rusted together where it should pivot. So. should the adjuster fork pivot on the arm which is attached to the parking cable? On mine, the end of the fork which contains the adjusting wheel does not move freely on the shaft. That being the case, the lever arm which spins the adjuster wheel isn't able to return to it's starting position. Conversely, I can't see that the parking bra…

Just replaced the original wheel cylinders on my stock 76 280z. The clips on the back are a pain to install. How does this type of wheel cylinder work?? There is only one piston that pushes on one shoe, the other shoe has the stationary adjustment wheel.... Most cylinders have two pistons, pushing out on each shoe. I had a picture, but it won't upload it... I don't see how both shoes will be engaged, unless the cylinder moves in the backing plate?? (doubtful). The cylinders changed on the 1977 280z to the "double" piston design... Thanks, inquiring minds want to know

Just wondering if anyone has this on their 280z. The car has coilovers and is lowered extremely low but I can always adjust it. Its stock fenders but I'm okay with putting fender flares, if I can go a meatier tire I will. This is is my ssr longchamps, and the other set i want to use is xxr.

Decided to change the rear brake shoes, I know they are due. Was given the wrong hardware kit (springs/etc...) by the local parts store. I have an "early" 1976 280z (by build date and rear compartment doors, no "raised board" panel. Their parts database had the early vs late in 1975, when it was actually in 1976 when some things changed mid-year. regardless, the question is How are the 1975-1976 280z brake shoe springs oriented? The J hooks look odd. Also, how can I install them? Lots of force in the springs it seems. Do both springs install on the "outside/front" of the shoe? I've never done drum brakes before, only disc. Thanks

I'm back again. Having the remains of three 240s available to build one really nice one (that's the plan) has its benefits, but is not without its challenges. A brand new, and apparently stock pair of front discs came with one of the cars / wrecks. I installed them, but then found I couldn't fit the aftermarket mag wheels on. I started poking around the other parts on hand and found that I had two different "hat" sizes available (see photo). On both types of discs, the diameter is 27 cm (10 5/8"). The hats however are different, with the new ones being 4 cm ( 1 9/16") deep, while the others (off which car?) are just 3 cm (1 1/4"). Does anyone know whi…

Hi all, I'm trying to source 4 black mesh Enkei 92s for my 72 240z and it seems that the only ones available readily in 15x7 have an offset of 38 which doesn't fit. Why then does Enkei tease us with this sort of ad when it appears these wheels won't fit? If anyone has ideas about how to source these wheels I would be most grateful. Thanks. Lking240

Does anyone know if the brembo brake kit from a 2011 genesis would fit a 71 240z? Would I need different brackets?

I bought new centric front brake lines for my '72 240Z and they appear too short. At full lock they are under A bit of strain. they are just a little over 10" or 26cm. The old ones are a little over 11". Is there a brand that fits better? Does the picture below look un usual at full lock ? Thanks Steve
