Wheels & Brakes

Discussions about different wheel & tire combinations and the affects on a Zcar.

  1. www.pmbperformance.com That was the site that conedodger told us about. I sent off my old painted brake calipers after the rally when they began to pull hard to the left each time I hit the pedal. Eric @ pmb performance took them apart and rebuilt, polished, and then restored them to factory new. He even put the brake pads I wanted in them (porterfields I believe), and the return service as outstanding, as was the communication. I had both pistons badly pitted and one was sticking in the bore. I am more than pleased with the results... here is what I sent him... Here is what came back... Standing ovation for this company as far as I an concerned. I can r…

Getting ready to buy a set of Konig Rewinds 15 or 16x7 4-114.3. Will these bolt right on? Are there any issues with the center caps not fitting? Any issues at all. Car is not lowered and has stock valance. Also want to buy "Z" sticker for center caps. Wheel Details - Discount Tire Direct

  6. As part of replacing the failed brake booster on my 72, I chose to suction most of the fluid from, and remove the master cylinder from my brake lines. Didn't want to risk bending brake tubing. After the new booster is in place, is it necessary to bench bleed the master, or can I just install it and bleed the lines as normal? I'm only asking because if I should bench bleed, I need to secure some plugs to block the line connections. Thanks

  7. Hey ya'll, I have 14" stock rims and just ordered 205/60/R15 tires, so I need a new set of 15" wheels. I'm looking for 7" in diameter. I don't like the 2 or 3 options there are for 15x7's with 0 offset, and I'm trying to keep the tire track pretty close to stock. So it got me wondering..... If I bought a wheel with 25mm (about 1") POSITIVE offset, but then combined it with a 25mm wheel spacer, wouldn't that simulate "0mm offset" in terms of clearance with calipers, brakes, spindle, etc.? If yes, then this would be nice as it would give me more wheel options by using an 1" thick adapter to change bolt pattern, or picking a wheel with positive offset i…

anyone know what color 1971 brake lines were.... i am cleaning all mine up but not sure exactly what to repaint them to be close to OEM thanks

  9. Searching has not brought me any definitive answers. It appears the front and rear hubs are not uniform size? I'm asking for two reasons - 1) because I'm converting the rear brakes to disc, and the Milkfab kit uses 300ZX Turbo rotors which have a 67mm bore. 2) I bought Konig Rewind 15x7 4x114.3, 73.1 bore 0 offset - So now I'm assuming I will need hub centric spacers for the rear wheels, but not for the fronts? Can anyone advise?

So, I've got a question about wheel hubs. I was putting the new rotors on my freshly cleaned up hubs. Once they were all together I noticed that the two hubs were not the same. I've owned this car since 1995. The previous owner was the first owner (bought it brand new in '76). I have never replaced the wheel hubs. I don't think he did either. However, the hubs are different, see attached pictures. The question: Do these differences actually matter?

  11. I've tried Auto-X three times but my car broke down due to vapor lock once and a damaged battery cable another time. I made it home eventually under my own power. This past weekend I got a successful 8 runs in at Dragway 42 near Cleveland, OH. The event took place in their parking lot which is a lawn area crisscrossed by pavement. This was their last event of the year so I'm making plans for my 260z's hibernation upgrades. One issue I'd like to address is rear tire grip. I've tried lowering my air pressure to 28.5 psi in the tires all around but my rear tires could still use a little more grip. I'm currently using Kumho Ecsta AST KU25 All-Season 225/50R15 91H …

  12. Started by Patcon,

So I picked a direction for my rear disc brakes on my 240z project. After talking with Cody we decided the best long term fit would be to just upgrade to Wilwoods all the way around. The rear Wilwood upgrade offered by Silvermine has a separate mechanical handbrake caliper along with a four piston hydraulic caliper. New vented disc BP10 street pads New rotor versus the old rotor To install the the parking brake caliper this yellow zinc plate needs to be removed. The caliper will then bolt to the aluminum adapter plate that is is supplied by Silvermine. The antisqueal shims on the rear of the parking brake pads have to be removed…
