Today, I started on what I hoped would be the straightforward job of rebuilding the brake master cylinder for my 70 Z. Disassemble, clean, install new seals and hardware, and reassemble. Job done. What could go wrong? Unfortunately, I only got to Step 2. After cleaning things out, I found a little divot in the floor of the cylinder bore, located about 1/2" aft of the rear stopper bolt. Hard to say what cause it. The car has been sitting for many years so I guess it corrosion damage. It's about 1/8" in diameter and deep enough to catch my fingernail on. The rest of the bore is in great shape. When I look at the cross-sectional view of the Brake MC in the 7…

I have a 77 280 that came with the collapsible inflatable accordion spare and I recently completed a project to replace that collapsible spare with an always inflated newer "donut" mini spare. I bought a T115/70/14 donut spare tire and wheel from a junkyard. It had the correct lug pattern, but the inside diameter was too small to fit over the front brake calipers. It fit OK on the rear over the drums, but wouldn't work in the fronts. I came up with two options. 1) use that donut spare as is and if I ever had a flat on the front, I could put that spare on the rear and move my rear tire to the front, or 2) I could remount that donut spare tire onto an old Datsun wheel …

Doing some preventative maintenance on my rear brakes, discovered I need to replace one of the flex lines. The upper brake hose connection released with my flare wrench fine, but when I moved to the lower one, I discovered to my delight that the nut on the hard line going to the wheel cylinder had been slightly rounded, making the flare wrench slip. Appears that the previous owner had tried to remove that line with a regular open end wrench and failed. So, not wanting to have that issue on my car, I need to replace that short hard line that goes to the wheel cylinder as well as the flex line. It appears that there is a difference between the 73 - 76 hard line and …

after reading up and indecision, i went ahead and bought some toyota calipers. the question i have now is this: for those who have done this, did you use the datsun factory caliper mounting bolts. they appear to be too short by about the thickness of the lock washer. if you replaced the bolts, what did you use? i stopped at the local toyota dealer, and they wanted $26 per bolt. who knows if they were even the right ones. thanks all sb

Hey guys, New to the Forum, tried the search button but could not find the answer i am looking for, recently purchase 73 Z stock, i have 14' wheels at the moment and wanted to upgrade my brakes to either four piston caliper kit or the wilwood big brake kit. To my understanding i need to upgrade to bigger wheels 15 or higher. I found some wheels that are 16x8x0 offset. will these rims fit, would i need spacers and are to wide? any input is appreciated. thanks

I am looking at buying some slotted mag wheels from a seller on the DPAN FB page. He has provided the pictures below and has said they are 15x7. It has always been my understanding and various wheel sites have shown that the true diameter of a wheel is the measurement of the rim itself. Basically the wheel minus the raised lips for the tire bead or to look at it another way, the diameter of the hole of the tire that will fit on the wheel. He shows an overall 15.25" diameter with a lip height of .75". The math would work out to .75 X 2 = 1.5. 15.25 - 1.5 = 14.75. When I measure the 14 x 5.5 wheels currently on my 240z, they have an edge to edge measurement of 15…

My brakes are really weak and I know my booster has a vacuum leak so I need to address that. Do the proportion valves in the engine bay and near the fuel tank ever fail and do they need rebuilding?

What are those holes for ? They're on drivers and passengers side. Do they hold the brake line in place with a clamp ? Thank you very much.

As in pic, the stainless hose is hanging from where it is held in place with the clips. Does one end of the hard line connect to the stainless end and the other end of the hard line go into the port, as in pic, on the wheel, hub assembly ? If you do it that way, it seems like there's a lot of xtra line. Is that the right way to do it ? Thank you very much.
