my 72 zed is in the shop for brake repairs. needs pads, rotors, flex hoses and right front caliper. he can get most parts except rotors and right front flex hose. on ebay the prices are all over the place. i'm thinking black dragon or motorsport. any suggestions? also i'm in canada, is there anywhere here to get these parts. what should i expect to pay for pair of rotors and one flex hose? i really only need one rotor but i think i should get two. is there a right and left rotor? thanx

My new rebuilt 1988 Maxima rear calipers came in from Rockauto yesterday, they are going on the rear of the 240z. They look great, all new bolts, seals. The first thing I do is start tearing them down, a friend who over at the time asked me what the heck I was doing. I told him I always tear down rebuilt calipers because quite often there is crap inside or the pistons are too worn. He slapped a $10 spot on the bench and said "I call BS, they will be perfect inside" I'm $10 dollars richer. I'm not saying anything bad about Rockauto, I love them. But I find this sort of thing in probably 75% of the calipers I buy from any auto parts store. The seals were all new, as w…

Hub Extenders 1 2

These were discussed on the Ztrix website, as a way of putting bigger/wider wheels on your Z without buying custom wheels. I have never heard much good about spacers, but these hub extenders seem different, so I wanted to ask. FYI, I don't plan on any serious racing, but may do an occasional lap on a course if I get a chance- just not that quickly For more details: http://www.ztrix.com/frequently-asked-questions/wheels-and-tires.html

Hi Found on Ebay Kobe Seiko Rally Wheels for sale. It appears that someone made them in magnasium like originals and now they are for sale in 14" and 15" sizes. Great find to put your replica 240z works car or just your street car with them. I think they look great... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DATSUN-240Z-WORKS-KOBE-SEIKO-WHEELS_W0QQitemZ280448628420QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item414c0a76c4 Filipe

Time to undo previous crap brake job; putting new everything front and rear. Shop will do it while I try to finish jobs and make rent money before the 1st. Not a lot of options at part store. Ordered Stop-tech semi-metallic pads about $30 for front at amazon, trying to find something to match for rear shoes. MSA has some rear shoes (valley, they said, couldn't find online) for $70. Local store has Wagner premium PAB-411 for $27. Autozone has Duralast about $20. NAPA TS-411 also $20. Raybestos NLA. Went to Porterfield site, they have a bunch but I guess it would be R-4S 411 shoes for $99 and R-4S front pads for $70. Considering all the cylinders, drums, calipers, et…

So I get this decent set of 14x6 aluminum 5 slot mags from a Z friend who recently sold his Z. For cheap. Picked one up, and WOW! Light! weighted it, 11 lbs! Cleaned up the back and see they are Fenton wheels, "GYRO Racing Wheels" embossed on the back. Then I googled them and found this article. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/why-you-should-not-run-fenton-mags.34158/ Time to call the recycler! Got Fenton wheels? Show car only! No driving! Jim

The car is a 1972, the previous owner replaced brake hoses, pads and shoes. The left front pad is showing more wear then the right. I have flushed the system with fresh dot4, removed the front pads and exercised the caliper pistons in and out and it still pulls left. So...assuming the problem is insufficient hydraulic pressure to the right front brake pad would you place your money on the brake fail indicator switch, a caliper problem, air in the system or something else...

The front brakes are locking up on my orange 72......I have a brand new master cylinder (Nissan). The brake lines are all new. Any ideas on the cause? I'm wondering if there is any adjustment on the push rod of the M/C? The front right wheel gets so hot you can't touch it.....the left front wheel has more than usual brake dust. Fluid level was down on the front resovoir. Any ideas.....I suck at brakes?

My '71 240z has a metal check valve with a rubber isolator around it. It is not plastic or black and grey like the ones being sold now. I removed it to double check that it was installed correctly and it was, on the booster side of the valve you can blow air through it and on the intake/engine side you cannot. My question is, how much pressure should it take to open the valve inside? On mine when I blow in to it, it takes some strength to overcome the valve. When it does I can feel it closing or thumping inside. It is not smooth but I do not know how it should be. My car has always stopped fine with plenty of pedal feedback but right now I am working to diagnose why…
