I'm trying to bleed the rear shoe brakes on a "71". It was sitting for over ten years and the master cylinder and rear wheel cylinders pistons were frozen, I have honed and rebuilt each. I am trying to use a hand vacuum pump to pull the hydro fluid from the master cylinder but it will not work. My question is: will the pump pull the fluid past the proportioning valve between the rear wheels or must it have pressure from the master cylinder? I am concerned about the proportioning valve also being frozen .Does anyone have any ideas or experience with a vacuum pump in this application?

Hello! I am looking to purchase new wheels for my '77 280Z. I am running 205/55R16 tires (and they are virtually new), so I will be going with a 16" rim, most likely with a 7" depth. Here is my question: What is the max offset that I can use? I would prefer zero offset, but the wheel selection at zero offset is limited. Before I really start to shop, I would like to know what my ranges are for offset, if possible. I already know the bolt pattern, etc. Thanks in advance for any help!

Made a right turn, slowed down, went over a bump in the parking lot, and after about 50 feet a fairly loud, metallic ta-ta-ta-ta-ta noise started coming from the left front wheel (or maybe suspension). Was going slow and opened the door so I'm sure it's left front. The noise continued until I parked. Jacked it up and spun the wheel both ways - nothing. Didn't see anything wrong under the car. Took a short drive, all ok and couldn't repeat the noise. About two months ago I had the front and rear brakes done (front left was grinding) by a shop that has done good work for me before. (I'd done the front brakes myself about 15000 miles ago with new rotors and calipers from M…

I've done research online on original tire and how the old size system compares to new sizes... after all that, just realized my spare is probably 40 years old. I just noticed it is 175-14 Michelin radial. It goes out of its way to say it's "tubeless" and says Made in Spain. I don't think it's original... car is a '71 and I'm guessing from the numbers after DOT that it's from '74??? Anyway, thought it was kind of cool, so I thought I would share...

Hello again. Eventually I plan to get new wheels/rims for my 1977 280Z. The previous owner had put adapters on it to go to 5-lug rims. This is a bad idea. So, I want to remove the adapters and go to 4-lug rims. However, the tires are brand new (from when I bought they car) and are pretty nice - Yokohama Advan S.4 205/55r16 ... so I want to keep these tires. 16" rims look sweet on the car, too. From my research, it appears the original bolt pattern is 4x4.5 (114.3mm). When I look for new rims/wheels, is there anything I need to keep in mind other than the bolt pattern (and, of course, the fact that I am getting 16" rims that will accommodate my tires ... 5.5-7.5" wid…

My 240z has hard brake lines connected to the stock brake proportioning valve below the master cylinder. There is fluid seeping from around these hard lines even though the nuts on the proportioning valve are cranked down tight. I'm going to be upgrading my master cylinder to install 4 piston calipers which I've had on hand for a while and can not seem to find somewhere to purchase a new proportioning valve (which I believe is the issue). Thank you for your help and any comments or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

I have purchased the 1981.5 Datsun 280zx snowflake rim without the Z center caps. I have the 6apoke Z rims with caps but they are too big of caps. Can anyone point me in the right direction or have a set of snowflake caps. Thank you very much

Hi guys looking for help once again. I'm looking for new wheels and trying to get the right size tire. This is the look i'm going for, a 15" wheel with a little more meat than my 205/50's. Can anyone help my find out what size tire is on the beautiful 432? My guess is 225/50-15....

i'm planning a rebuild of the rear suspension and brakes to includes all bushings, strut cartridges, spindle pins, washers, nuts, etc. in the spirit of "while we're at it", is there any reason or value to replacing rear bearings as well? i noticed a fair amount of wheel wiggle up front, i'm assuming the rears are in similar condition.

Ive spent over an hr reading through various threads about wheel size and tire size on stock 240z. I am buying 0offset wheels 16x8, not sure on the design yet but I know thats the size. I want tires that will obviously not rub, but something that doesnt look goofy. The common size is 225/50/16 for this wheel. I think that is a bit wide for the front. I was thinking a 215/50/16 for the front and 225/50/16 for the rear, for a little staggered look and feel. What your guys suggestions on tire size with stock suspension on a 71 240z with a 16x8 0-offset wheel?

spent two hours reading several posts but could not find any answer :ogre: changed the rear rubber hoses to braided ones the last days and tried to bleed the system today. first bleed the tandem master with rubber hoses attached to the bleed screws into the reservoirs until no air came out. have speed bleeders all around so started on the rear passenger side first. then rear driver, passenger front and driver front side until no air came out of all the calipers just plain fluid. have willwood fronts and started to bleed the inner valve of the caliper first. checked for leakes of any kind and there seem to be none. system is not losing and fluid. checked for any wilwood …
