Car is a 1976 280z with automatic transmission. I am the original owner. Been having brake issues off and on for about 2 years now. I will not go into all the details, but started out with wheel cylinder problems on the rear drums. My current problem is no brakes. Pedal goes to the floor. The times that I have tested the car in the neighborhood, the brakes will stop the car, but are bottomed out leaving me no reserve at all. The following have been replaced or repaired in the past 2 years: - Both rear wheel cylinders. (These are not leaking.) - Both front calipers and pads. (These are not leaking and the bleeders are positioned to the top.) - Master Vac (The chec…

Hey mates This past afternoon I pulled the calipers off my front rotors to see why they were squeaking. As I had expected the pads are down to their last few mm and in need for a change - I also broke a metal brake line but that's for another day. I was going to purchase a set of Wagner Ceramic brake pads as replacement. Has anyone used these before? I have slotted/vented front rotors for reference, which need to be machined (and will be) before this is all said and done. Thanks mates Jan

I've been addressing my new toe '72's issues one at a time, starting with brakes. First job was a new reman brake booster from MSA which made a huge difference. Second was to address break noise that occurred with slight pressure. Took off the wheels, pulled pads and shims, cleaned them up applied grase between the pad and shim, put them back the way I found them ( lots of pad left). Theth were much better but they still would "sing" a little with light pressure. Did a search and stumbled across a diagram that shows y shims are upside down. The were and are in in an "L" shaped position with the arrow on the shim pointing down. Could this be causing my continued noise?:…

Hi guys, I attempted to make my own brake lines over the last two days and I thought it went pretty well. I used Fedhill copper/alloy lines, and their appropriate fittings. Using the newly purchased Eastwood flaring tool it was a breeze. I noticed on the left rear wheel cylinder, when tightening the line it had quite a bit more friction then the practically finger tightening method I was using on the others. It also kept screwing in farther and farther. Which comes to today, I bled the entire system. By the end of it I had a very firm pedal and was very pleased until I noticed that one particular fitting had a slight leak. Tried tightening it but had no luck. I dec…

Hey Folks.... Question for you... I was thinking of ditching my spare tire to put in a stereo sub-woofer in the spare wheel well... It's been a while since I've had a flat on any of my cars.. but still I prefer to be safe then sorry... Anyone here ever use that Air & Seal flat repair stuff... I assume it only for emergency repair of the tire to get you to the nearest gas station/tire repair joint... I was just wondering how well it worked.. and if it can screw up the balance of the tire one way or another.. Thanks

Hello all I drove a tad over 250 miles today for the holiday and I'm hearing an odd noise from the rear. What is the best way to check the rear bearings on these lovely cars? Should it leave the wheel on and just yank on the it or should I take the wheel and drum off and just move the hub itself. Any opinions would be lovely. Thanks Jan

Seeing that the brake fluid is a nice shade of deep purple I have confirmed with the previous owner of my '71 240z that it has DOT 5 fluid in the brake system. All of the brake components are either new or professionally restored but the pedal is very spongy. I plan on trying to bleed the system some more but I have also read about issues of using DOT 5 fluid such as how difficult it can be to get all the air out and that some brake components are not compatible with silicone based fluid. Should I flush all the DOT 5 out and put in some brand name DOT 3 or DOT 4? Looks like DOT 3 is always good and DOT 4 is good too as long as you stick to the flush interval of approx.…

Hey guys, I found some pretty cool classic wheels in the right bolt pattern. Owner days they are from a Datsun. I haven't seen these much, if any. Do you know where they originally came from?

I'm thinking about giving myself one of these sets of wheels in 15X7, 0 offset for Christmas. A couple questions I have are: What are the advantages/disadvantages of the VTO's vs the Panasports? I know the Panasports are considerably more expensive, but just looking at the online photos of both wheels they look nearly identical to me (except for the "VTO" or "Panasport" emblem in the center cap). The wheels will be used exclusively for street driving, and my suspension is all stock. Does anyone know if there is any significant difference in the weights of the two brands? Strength? Materials used in construction? Color? Finish? Also, futofab.com is offering a 20% dis…
